Vets again this afternoon for possibly another enema. Given jasper 2 & a half doses of 0.7mls of lactulose over 2 days (one at 2pm ish yesterday, one at 8pm and one at 8am today(the half is as the one I gave him this morning ended up everywhere but in his mouth:Facepalm) - he last went to the toilet on Thursday after an enema as he hadnt been for 2 days. as we haven't heard from the specialists or the insurance I'm not sure if I should ask for bloods too. (If petplan pays out he'd be having them at the specialists as well as the ultrasound) I'm not sure if it's going to be too stressful for him and wether I should wait or if it's something that I should nip in the bud now. I asked about a possible blockage - but as after the enema he does go to the toilet she said it is very unlikely. He has been on the same I/D food for a while now and we don't feed him anything else at all. I am so confused at the reason that he is unable to go suddenly. He was having normal poos finally for a couple/few weeks after the bouts of diarrhoea and now suddenly he just won't go?!

Do you think I should ask for bloods or just wait it out? he is eating less than usual over the last couple of days but still eating and drinking none the less. He seemed more "alert" after the last enema, following me around meowing constantly - and was up and about sort of playing/ jumping around lastnight (probably not like a "normal kitten" but I was in bed instead of the settee as my backs hurting and he isn't used to that) he's slept all morning - getting up for a little food and water. he is still shaking - a little more often now I'd say.

    Thanks again :)

    Sorry for the essay!

I know how worried you must be but I'm sure the vet will get him sorted out. I am not in the Uk so can't advise about the insurance hun. I hope he's all ok soon. xxx

Glad the vet doesn't seem to think it's a possible blockage.
I would probably be inclined to ask for bloods anyhow if it were me - will the vet do them if you get insurance approval. Some of them take a while to come back so the sooner the better they are done if they do want to do them.

@Faye1995 please accept my ignorance but is he on a dry diet? Is he bunged up with a diagnosis or concern? I hope he gets moving as it's awful being constipated xx

After spending an hour waiting at the vets (there were so many emergencies, jasper decided to have a poo haha!)

He eats wet food, the I/D gastro food as he's had a lot of problems with his stomach. We're waiting to be seen by a specialist to rule things out, we've got to keep giving lactulose.

    Thankyou xxx

Bless him. My MC had awful squits. She had a suggestion of ib. If I am honest a lot of her issues were anxiety. I wet feed or raw feed. She was prescribed dry by the vet. in desperation she was started on raw and let outside. I hope you get resolved soon as it's was soul destroying seeing my cat so unhappy and unable to control herself. Xx

Can i suggest you adding a bit of warm water to his food. Lactulose works by coating the outside of the stool and keeping it moist. I used to warm food to mouse temperature so ensure she got plenty of fluid in

Awww bless him, so little too.

Lactulose works by absorbing water from the body rather than irritating the bowls to work. He shouldn't be in pain.

Get him to take on more fluids and I would ask for blood tests to be done.

I really hope he gets better soon.

Nice soft regular poo's please Jasper!

I would personally get on with some investigations. He can't just keep having enemas - we need to actually work out what's going on!

He didn't have to have another anyhow, he managed to go on himself which is great!!! Monday I'm ringing the specialist and asking them to ring petplan to see if that helps make it faster! - was gonna ring today but by the time we had finished at the vets the specialists were closed. if they can't I've said I'll have full bloods done at the vets while we wait :) didn't want to stress him out with 2 lots of bloods but I just want answers now. He seems much happier in himself this afternoon though!! playing.

    Thanks everyone :)

You might have to wait until Tuesday now - Easter Monday and all that.
