I hope someone can help or advise as I'm at my wits end. My 13 wk old bulldog cross bitch has vaginitus. Tests confirmed it is ecoli. She has had 3 weeks of antibiotics tablets which didn't clear it up so the vet has tried a different antibiotic injection lasting 2 weeks. 1 week in and I'm seeing the greenish discharge again. There is very little swelling and she occasionally licks it. Tests show she is clear of UTI. She has a bit of excess skin and standing I can't see her vulva at all. Ive been told this may well be the problem however it could just clear up after the first cycle. The next antibiotics to try could potentially damage her joints and I really don't want to go down that route.

She has also missed her booster for vaccinations because the vet said it was unwise to vaccinate with an active infection. She therefore cant go for a walk, can't socialise with other dogs, she's nervous temperament and I'm concerned if this doesn't get cleared up we will miss any opportunity to get her used to the outside world. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had issues with this in a young pup. Any advice would be greatfully received.

Our Staffy bitch had juvenile vaginitis when she was a pup. She did respond to antibiotics though.

It is true that the problem should resolve itself once your puppy has had her first season.

Thanks for the reassurance I will keep my fingers crossed the antibiotics do the job.

I can't help with the infection but at 10 weeks.old Luna broke her leg which required surgery and 6 weeks of crate rest! My biggest worry - once I knew leg was ok was socialisation and how far behind she would be. She is now 20 months old she is fine with other dogs, people and has good recall :)

Oh no. So sorry to hear about your dog. Must have been awful. U worry about them like theyre human babies when they are pups!! socialisation is a big worry of mine but its a big comfort to know Luna turned out ok. X
