Hey everyone. Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give me. Also, I live in America, so I am sure I will have an accent. But here is what is going on.
The problem
Our orange friend keeps jumping up on the counters and eating things. Spray bottles, and doubled sided tape don't really phase him. This has been an ongoing issues for many months. He is restless. Licking food off dirty dishes, straight from our pot, licking splattered grease off our stove, even as far and pawing burned noodles out from under the burner to eat them. He has stolen food straight off our plate while we are sitting at the table when he is fast enough. We can't even leave the store unattended or else he will steal food from the boiling hot water and run away with it to eat it. He has even burned his paws on hot stove burners. He just never learns or gives up.
Our solution
We decided to start feeding them more of their cat food. We thought maybe his sister was eating his food and that is why he was acting the way he did around our food. We up upped it from 1/2 cup twice a day to 3/4 of a cup twice a day.
The result from this change
Our orange friend started throwing and had diarrhea. Also noticed they where leaving unfinished food behind in the food bowl. This went on for several days. Even while sick, he was still jumping on our counters and going after our food. Was not concerned as he was acting like his normal self. We deep cleaned the kitchen so there was nothing he could get into. Had no change.
Over the next few days
We tried to feed him rice. No salt. No butter. Just cooked rice. Thought it would help with his upset tummy. To my surprise he had no interest and refused to eat the rice. Then I got super consider about his appetite. I feed him 1/2 a cup of cat food and monitored him. He maybe ate 1/4 of a cup in all. His sister must be eating most of the food. I offered him some wet cat food and he ate it all. But he still goes after our food. So no change there. This morning he ate a wire and threw the wire back up. We did get all of the wire back.
I am at a lost. Beyond frustrated. He will eat wires for our fish bowl light and throw them back up. But he will refuse to eat rice and does not seem to enjoy his cat food. My next step will be changing out their cat food. After that, it is to the vet with him. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.
