The wrong name

    Guinea pigs don,t come from Guinea and they are not pigs.
    Turkeys don't come from Turkey. The are native to North America.
    Silverfish are insects, not fish.
    I guess there is a lot of things (animate or inanimate) that has a name that doesn't fit. Another eggsample (see my other thread.(Easter eggs). The black box flight recorder isn't black, its orange.
    Can you think of any more wrongly named items.

    Strawberries....................dont taste of straw.
    Peanut Butter..................not alot of sandwich's you can make with this.
    Pear...............................there's only ONE.
    Gooseberries....................dont look like a goose.
    Pork Scratchings...............how can they get an itch when the pig is dead.
    Tea Total........................what's that got to do with BOOZE.
    Beef Wellington................does that mean the meat is rubbery.
    Water Babies...................dont live under water.
    Thrush :eek:...................how the hell can you get one in your mouth or any other part of the body for that matter. (its a bird).

    we alway called than cheesy bugs and a lot of people I know call then it too Don't ask me why :confused: :smilewinkgrin: :D

    'Turkey Ham' got no ham in it, it's Turkey + water + other bits & sh1t :D

  13. we call woodlouse cheese logs. Aparently its a Reading thing and people out of Reading don't call them that. weird

    okay ! You win, but I meant pigs as in farm animals. I sure you knew that though.

    It is because animals are called different things in different places that they are given scientific names which remain the same all over the world. This applies to plants as well.
