Its the adverse press thats done no favours for these poor dogs and the dog fighting is so horrid the poor things, all they want is love companionship and a warm bed or lap to curl up in.

Makes me soo sad, i strongly belive ban the owner not the breed !!!

I actually really like pitbulls :)

I think other banded breed such as the Tosa Inu, are more dangerous anways :S and many other non banded breeds could do just as much damange if not more to a person anways :S

    I have tears too :(

It is so true though...................''what happened to innocent until proven guilty''

I have always been and always will be a strong believer in 'deed not breed'.

Any pup has the potential to be a loving family pet. But often with the ''history'' of these beautiful dogs they fall into the wrong hands.

Why ban Pitbulls?? Why not ban bad owners?

I find it so crazy that a whole amazing breed is band. I found this...

    (ignore the title)

YouTube - "PIT BULL VICIOUSLY ATTACKS BABY"

Was watching them with my kids who are young and my 6 yr old asked if we could have one. I explained why and she looked confused and said to me "but mummy you aren't allowed to be racist, everyone is the same"

To play devil's advocate, this is a very interesting read on the subject: http://www.dogbitelaw.com/Dog Attacks 1982 to 2006 Clifton.pdf

I completely 100% agree that it's all in the handling of the dog and that most animals will never be a danger. This article outlines that pittbulls are more dangerous not because they're more likely to attack than other dogs (in fact on another site I read, dachshunds are the most aggressive breed) but when they do attack, pittbulls and dobermans are less likely to give warning and far more likely to kill or maim their victim than any other breeds.

I disagree that dogs should be killed purely on their breed and so long as the handlers are deemed safe I'm in support of any breed being available, as I said in another thread, a responsible owner shouldn't have to explain their choice of breed. The problem comes with figuring out whether or not people are responsible owners.

I don't want to cause an argument or annoy anyone, but some of my interests have been under legal scrutiny (I still own and occasionally shoot my air rifle) so I've learned to see both sides of the argument and "in responsible hands *** is safe" is very common, but the fact always remains that while something is legal and easy to get hold of, there's no guarantee that they are in responsible hands.

Again, sorry for playing devil's advocate, but hopefully it'll a bit of balance to the debate. :)
