Nothing better than a bit of real responsibility to make a populist party to lose elections. These municipal elections were a good indicator that most Finns understood how incompetent populists really are decided not to support them anymore. Greens gained more popularity, which is also good news. In most big towns it is either the second, third or the fourth biggest party now. In Helsinki the second biggest party!

I don´t know how the municipal system works in Britain, but here they all get elected according to amount of votes, so even when the biggest parties get most seats, also the "little" parties get some seats. As a results, all need to cooperate with other parties, as none have a majority on it´s own.

I guess that makes it impossible for any extremest to change system too much.

I really have no care for politics or the politicians, simply because I do not trust the politicians.

They are all thieves and liars, and some are even murderers.

Politics is the ruination of otherwise thoroughly good people.

Maybe this party was just too basic?

    :p
Maybe just badly disguised attempt of brick industry?

Local elections don't always reflect what people would vote on a national level. Hell, even the Lib Dems got in here for one term because their candidate was persuasive, didn't get voted in again.

I do wish The Greens weren't so weird. I like so many of their policies and then they have a few to placate the extreme element in their midst

Awesome news to see such a big gain for the Greens & another kick in the teeth for the anti EU populist parties. Maybe the only good thing to come out of brexit.

British politics works a different way. It's how many seats each party gets that decides who is in power, not the overall amount of votes.

Absolutely right there. In the UK they are used mainly as a protest vote for what people think about the parties at the national level. different countries have different methods of forming parliaments which will also affect how things play out at the local level. Doesn't look as though the examples are looking good for popularism at the moment though.

Referendum was also used by some for exactly the same thing, ignoring the importance of what was being voted for.

Some people have been complainiing for years.. anyone remember John Cleese party polical broadcasts about proportional representation. When it comes down to it those in power will not want to change the way the system works. It works to keep them in power. Just getting rid of the "whips" would be a major improvement though.

Ermmm.... we did have a vote about 5 years ago on whether we wanted proportional representation. Most of us said no.

So instead support a party of ideological extremists bankrolled by billionaires & big business in the thrall of insidious lobby groups. Hmmm ok. I mean what could be more extreme than a party who cares only about profit & power? Tories are killing the planet for ££$$ - that's not in the slightest bit extreme?.

Nothing weird about a party that fights for social & environmental justice Rona :). The Greens don't placate any extreme elements as you put it (again that's the tories you're thinking of ;)) The Green party is a genuinely democratic grassroots movement :) https://policy.greenparty.org.uk/

You should understand that there's comfort and safety in the old and familiar.

Profit over people is all that matters and who has most.

Yes you're so right Mr! And I'm all for weird, me:p Better a weird party then a selfserving, heartless & corrupt to the core one. IMO.
