what age to you let your pup swim? I kind of let mine tell me when theyre ready
Same here, he decided when he wanted to.
Alfies almost 10 and still hasnt been in water deeper than a puddle.
Oscar wont go deep enough to swim, although he does like water.
Sky was 5 months when she was brave enough to go in water lol
Dave decided when next door put there swimming pool up he wpuld go for a swim.
Up until then if Dixie swam he would hang around at the edge. Yesterday he went for a really good swim.
I just make sure I don't let him swim for too long or he might pull a muscle or something!
Amber's 11 and she won't go in anything deeper than a puddle and that's only if she can't find away round it. She hates getting her paws wet.
Cheeko's never swam. I try and get him to at the park but he gets scared. He went running across the car park a few weeks back and was heading towards the pond but didn't have his lead on and he stopped just in time and was looking at me asif 'Why did you almost let me run into the pond!?!' Everyone was laughing at him I thought poodles were supposed to like water aswell!
My first Goldie had been swimming before I picked her up at 8 weeks. As long as their inoculations are finished and it's as hot as now, I can't see any problem.
Obviously if it was cool, a pup can get chilled very quickly
Lol Harvey is almost 6 and exactly the same!
All the working dogs have swam from the age of about 4 months.
Chester swam at 6 months old
Bess has never swam properly, only a play in the shallows. She is 4 nextyear, and i want her to experience swimming before then. Might take the lilo down to the river, and paddle out with her swimming alongside, so if we get in difficulty she can get on the lilo
we just let her take it at her own pace. She started paddling at about 5 months but wouldn't swim till she was about 8 months old no matter how much encouragement. She still won't jump in but as long as she can run into the water, she loves it.
It was a duck pond which made her take the plunge in the end and she has never looked back...
Course now it is a battle to keep her out of the water, as it is the first place she heads in the park. Which would be fine except the first pond is much lower because of the summer and is basically just a mud bath - yuk!
i let them tel me when there ready
Buster was swimming at 4 months old and Silas pretty much as soon as we got him. Sophie a mix of 2 water retrievers point blank refuses to go near anything remotely resembling water. We don't push them it's when they're happy.
Sacha is 10 weeks and she jumped in the pool with me heh.
Maddie is three and won't go in water past her belly. >.<
my pups swimming well hes 4 months, I figured if hes old enough to run 100m away from me - hes old enough to take a dip
My pup's three months and I'm trying to introduce her to water slowly as she needs to be a good swimmer (I'm hoping to take her kayaking next year). She's happily splashing around up to her oxters now but I'm not pushing the swimming until she's ready. It's good to know that she could be doing this in another few weeks, judging by other's experiences of working dogs
My pups have been in the paddling pool since they were 5 weeks old they all love splashing about in the water and are super confident x
Badger,s 3ish month's she had a little swim this morning
Arnie just went at his own pace. Started plodging about 4mths and gradually increased the depth himself. First full swim was when he went for a plodge and I walked around to the other side of the pond so he launched himself across. Now cant keep him out Hes always wet or muddy or both after a walk
Sound's like my springer
