sucking in air - why?

    Hi all,

    A bit of advice needed...

    Pheonix sometimes sucks in air at odd times like if she's sleeping and wakes up.
    It's a bit like when someone has an asthma attack I guess.
    She seems to take in 5 big gulps and her tummy contracts a bit like when they are going to be sick.

    At first I thought she was coughing as there was a hacking noise too but not I see this sound has gone and it's more nasal. Defo not kennel cough or anything, I checked with the RSPCA where she came from.

    any ideas? Hubby says maybe an allergy?

    Sounds like reverse sneezing. loads of videos on youtube :D
    Some dogs only get mild attacks while others suffer quite badly with prolonged attacks.
    Not something to be unduly worried about

    Yes! It is like a reverse sneeze - a good way to describe it.
    Oh phew - right will have a look on youtube then.
