    Hi,

I posted this on the Shows Forum but haven't had any luck with anyone replying so I thought I'd give the general one a try!

I've recently joined this site as I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous Springer x Lurcher Pup, Lincoln. I'd love to take him to Charity Shows and Events as its such a good way for him to socialize with other dogs and for myself to socialize with other owners. I know to qualify for entry into most Shows I've looked at he needs to be 6 months, however I can't seem to find and Events where I could enter him in the Hertfordshire area.

Does anyone know of any up-coming Shows or Events in the Hertfordshire area in which I could enter Lincoln?

    Many thanks,

    Vicki

Hi Vicki and welcome to PF

Your best bet is to google for a local canine club in your area and see when they have one

    Umm otherwise i dont know

    Good luck x

Its a bit early in the year yet for companion shows
Not long though, most start in May
When is your pup 6 months?
The show section on here does get lots of fun companion shows put on it
this link to the kc gets updated regularly with ones licensed by the kc

Companion Dog Club Shows (holding Companion Dog Club Classes) 2011 Calendar - The Kennel Club
also this is a hefty link but it does tell you whats on day by day

Thank you, he'll be 6 months at the end of June, the other thing that I wondered was, does he have to be KC registered to enter anything that is licensed by the KC?

Nope he can enter any companion show
Thats the difference between a companion show and a fun dog show a companion show is licensed by the KC and has pedigree classes as well as novelty classes :001_smile:
Have fun and good luck, I done stacks of companion shows last year and had a real blast doing it. Hopefully will do the same this year.
Dont forget you can still take you pupster along to watch any you find near you, great atmosphere and socialisation. There will probably be stalls and the like and plenty of doggie people to chat to :001_smile:

Also look at any local game fairs as they often have lurcher shows and he is technically a lurcher.

A springer cross lurcher, what an odd mix :)

Whats in the lurcher side of him?

    I love my lurchers.

To find out about dog shows, do a quick search of your local rescues as they normally run companion ones. I organise some in Northants - think thats a bit too far for you though :D

Companion Dog Club Shows (holding Companion Dog Club Classes) 2011 Calendar - The Kennel Club

This would be good for you to attend when it is on thsi year:

Hertfordshire Game & Country Fair, Oct 02 to Oct 03, 2010

But i find that most country fairs are a bit clicky and unless your a farmer who owns a lot of land or someone who knows someone then you wont even get a chance of winning.

It is an odd mix indeed!! His mum was a black and white rough-haired lurcher and dad was a liver and white springer spaniel. They were both working dogs and thy had quite a few other working dogs too but she did say it wasnt a planned pregnancy, a complete accident!! I'll try and get some pictures up at sometime when i find time.

I went to the county show a while back, without a dog, but i know exactly what you mean!!

Second in trying your local dog rescues many will I am sure have summer dog shows... not sure if they were what you are after, but great fun days out and good for socialising and a bit of fun.

I know that Appledown Rescue hold one September (they are based near Whipsnade)

Prob worth trying the Blue Cross at Wheathampstead and maybe the RSPCA at Ridge?

Local notice boards at pet supermarkets can be a good place to look.

I'm going to have to sit down and look into all this because i've always wanted to be able to show a dog but never had a great interest in the showing of pedigree dogs. I'm also considering doing agility training with him because he's ridiculously smart and i think he'd take to it really well, and i'm sure it'd be good fun too!!!
