    Hello Everyone,

Last night I took Harry for his checkup and he has been given the all clear and everything is back to normal, thank goodness!

While the vet was checking his she showed me something that you need to look out for in male rabbits that I have never heard about before, it may be common knowledge but I thought I would share.

Male rabbits have a sheath that their penis goes back into, at the base of this sheath on the outside if you part their fur they can get waxy deposits that you need to remove as this could get smelly and cause fly strike, especially when we have hot weather.

Harry did have some of these and the only way I can describe them is that they were the colour of dark ear wax and looked like small chrysalis's.

The vet said that you should be checking for these every 3 to 4 days.

I did ask why they get them but she didnt say, so if anyone does know please let me know.

I know it is a bit graphic and grose but it was something I hads no idea about so wanted to share what I had learnt.

    LOL!

It is definalty not an easy thing to do, when the vet was doing it she had be holding him and she was removing them.

My other half is going to love having to help me do that :)

I think that its just because if they get a bit smelly then flys will get attracted, thats what the vet said anyway.

I dont think they are bad for their health in any other way, just something that they get.
