Something I did not know about claws...

    I just thought that Dixie, being part JRT, had long claws as all JRT I have known, have quite long claws especially on there front feet.

    I trim them and the vet said they were OK when she was in before xmas.


    Then I saw this on FB

    I did not know that the blood supply will recede and the quick gets shorter when you trim the claw near to it.


    So now I am going to file her nails every few days and she can have short claws. Her back ones don't 'click' when she walks on the lino, the front ones do but no more than the other pair, I've never let them get long that they start to curl round, they are just long!

    You can also use a dremel to file down claws, on black claws you're less likely to make the dog bleed because you can see where the kwik starts. Never done it on a small dog though so I don’t know how easy that'd be :)
