You need sun for solar panels to be effective. When do we get sun?

They can have a slow payback period, but dont go for any company that offers to install for free as they will take all of the feed in tariff payouts!

If you hook it back into the grid there can be some financial benefit, the rate you are paid per kwh generated will be tied for 20 or 25 yrs, plus 3p/kwh generated for power fed back into the grid on top of money saved on your elec bill. Make sure its installed by a certified MCS installer.

It doesnt need to be glorious sunshine for power to be generated, but peak generation will obviously happen on a clear day during high sun.... on average it works out to be about 2.6hrs a day peak efficiency for the london area (more in summer, less in winter)
