Do you only have one perch?

You need a minimum of two. How big is the cage?

Neither him nor his perch should smell.

you should be putting sandpaper (from pet shop, not shed)in the bottom of the cage, sanded perches will help keep feet clean, claws short.if feet are allowed to be dirty he will gt a nasty infection.

Yes I was going to suggest getting some apple tree branches as perches for him. That's what my two budgies have and they love them and they are better for their feet than plastic perches.

Been Lurking & had to join. I find Ivan to be just so funny.

Never knew that Moldovians had such a sense of humour.

I suppose a Perch like Ivan used would save of having to give the Bird a Cuttlefish Bone!

I'd love to see a photo of your budgie in his cage, sound like he might need to see an avian vet if he is really that smelly? What are his dropping like? What are you feeding him?

Do not wrap the perches in sandpaper, it will end up taking all the skin off his feet and he will get sores. Natural perches are great, maybe apple, eucalyptus or Hazlenut wood?

He should have at least 2 perches so he can fly to and throw from one to the other, what are his toys like? Do they smell too?

All his perches should be wiped clean every day, paper at the bottom changed everyday.
The cage should also be cleaned from top to bottom at least once a week.

If this is done you should not have to keep cleaning his feet and there should be no smell.

I can't believe that some people are taking this seriously in some of the responses I have read.
