We have been to see some dogs today that live in kennels outside. We are looking to buy a dog and it will be in a kennel for the most part of the warmer weather. Do you think that the dog would become unhappy being on its own or do you think it would do better with a kennel mate, as there are 2 up for sale.??

The kennel would be built to house 2 very comfortable with a good shelter:)

I would not reccomend keeping a single dog in a kennel. Dogs need company.

depends how long it will be alone for?
dogs are pack animals, and do enjoy company.

I'd rather not leave on their own. its just the costs that incurr with 2 dogs and wanting to make sure they are happy. it would be on its own for max 5 hour per day

'Chance' used to spend a good chunk of her day in a kennel on her own. She was fine as she was left with a load of toys and if I had ever set a camera on her through the day, I suspect it would of shown her asleep for 99% of it!

I do agree that dogs like company but also think they can manage just fine alone.

thank you. HAve spoken to the lady today and she has agreed she will be ok on her on. She is a nearly 3 year old rough collie- quite small girl but very nice temperament and i think we will be putting a deposit down for her

More to the point - if she has been kennelled all her life how will she take to being a house dog - and is she house trained.

Why get a dog only to leave her outside alone all the time?
