And what have all the big supermarket shops got in this week
    Including Aldi and lidl?

That'll be their back to school ranges:Banghead

Does anyone actually buy their children back to school clothes and shoes at the begining of the holidays?

I know, one year, 3 out of four of mine went up 2 shoes sizes over the summer hold
Maybe it's just me, but I never bought anything for the boys, before the week before the begining of the autumn term
    And
Still managed to get complete new outfits x 3 for all four boys, even when at different schools

    Crazy

They'll start to put the Christmas things out as soon as they go back to school.

My mum, back in the day, used to buy my school stuff as soon as the Co-op stocked it. Two sizes too big so I would 'grow into' it.
I was alway so embarrassed at wearing mid calf skirts and rolled waistband up as soon as I left the house.
At least she left buying shoes until the week before term started. Bl00dy TUF lace ups. Anyone remember them?

I dreaded the words she'll grow into it.
I think I had Clarks they used to put your feet in an X-ray type machine to see how much room they had in the shoe.
I think TUF came a long a little later.

It still makes me laugh when I see people pressing the toes of new shoes, and the funny walk they do to check they fit and look ok while in the shop.
    It wasn't a real x-ray machine was it. Couldn't be:Jawdrop.

Me too … and I had a sister 2 years older so often got double bubble of the same outfits …. OK if I liked it but often I didn’t ;)

I used to have this awful cream faux fur hat mum used to make me wear …. It got stuffed in my bag as soon as I got round the corner! I’d rather be cold than look like a Wally! :D

When we went to the same school I got hand me downs when my older sister got to big to fit into them anymore :p . I do remember getting excited about new shoes (this is in primary school) and patent leather shoes I thought were great.
I think we got our uniforms sorted early, got trousers a bit too long and hemmed them and as we grew we let a little down each time

I didn't have to wear a school uniform until I was 11. The skirt and shoes were the only new things I got. The rest was donated from our neighbour who's daughter had left that year. The blazer was huge and lasted right until I left, same with the tie and jumper.

At my brother's school they had to wear caps. They would have a new cap when they started at 11 yrs old and still be wearing the same cap when they left at 18. They looked so funny with these little caps perched precariously on top of their heads!:D

They'll squeeze the Hallowe'en stuff in at some point too. But at one time (not sure if they still do) Harrods used to have their Christmas tree up in August so the rich children could see it before the start of term!

I used to have Clark shoes and I think I know the thing you mean, I did have to take my shoes off and they'd measure your feet, wasn't xray, just a plasticky foot measure thing, I always found it rather exciting getting new shoes.

O I remember them with a little slider that stops at your big toe to give your measurement.

I do sometimes  not shoes but generally I just buy slightly sized up. We get through so many bits of uniform (mainly holes in knees/paint on polo shirts) that if it's on a special offer I need to make the most of it!
We have a school system where we can donate uniform that's in good condition to be passed on to other parents but mine never seem to be in the right sizes
