Now I'm not a little dog person, and JRTs are just not my cup of tea. But I saw a striking little dog today whilst we were driving along. S/he was striding along looking really happy.

It was Black and Tan (a colour I do have a thing for :)) but looked like a JRT.

Do JRTs come in Black and Tan? I've never seen one before.

    Lovely looking dog!

Well as it was only 12 miles from Chelmsford it could have been one of these. Had short hair like a JRT, and short legs, so not a min pin or Manchester.

Lancashire Heelers come in Black and Tan and they are short like a jrt and have quite erect ears.

JRT's do come in black and tan, my dad and step mum have two.

    Lovely dog! :D

Right shape, but this black and tan was the Doberman type colouring.

An English toy terrier perhaps ? Smaller than a Manchester ..but similar .

My friend has a Black and Tan jack russel edit to add...same markings as a Doberman and a smooth coat

Min Pins come in black and tan as well as chocolate and tan (like Bruno) but they do have long legs :)

    Thank you :)

I get what you mean but you can't deny he is Black and Tan (except for his little white patch on his chest) ;) :D

*Technically* Jack Russell's do not come in black and tan - they are supposed to be at least 51% white...

However, there are few pure JRT's these days, they're more of a type than a breed. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours which is part of the appeal of them - you could have a line up and they would all be different... let's call them JRT's :)

This dog is likely to be mostly JRT though, there are more black and tan JRT type terriers appearing i've noticed. Molly has a little black and tan JRT friend, Lola...

and this is Messy.. the dog I looked after in May... if it wasn't for him, Molly wouldn't be here...

Doesn't the JRT club of Great Britain state that JRT's are at least 51% white?

Any small terrier type dog is called a JRT these days, it's quite sad really as their identity is fading. I know they are not a breed as such but they have always had the identity of being mainly white.

This is just me saying/posting my feelings out loud, no offence meant to anyone.

We had a jrt she died in January at 16 and she was a proper jrt met both parents etc she was Black and Tan in Doberman style markings. There were 8 in her litter 5 boys all white with Black and Tan markings then the three girls one all black one all black with a tan foot and tango. So yes they do come in Black and Tan but they aren't a recognised colour

Lola! That's the double of the one I saw!

Now I must be colour prejudiced as I'd have a JRT like that like a shot! Oh, if I hadn't taken a vow of not mixing breeds of a different size together after my disasterous attempt of a GD and CS.

    Maybe when I'm old(er) and can't walk a setter anymore. :D

By the way -black and tans have 'devil eyes'. They make the devil think their eyes are open. Even when they are shut!

(Thank Stephen King for that one. Salem's lot'
