on Monday, a city patrolman knocked down & punched a man repeatedly on a side street, during what appears to be a harassment stop - 'walking while black'. Allegedly he was "jaywalking".
He was punched in the stomach, hit in the head, both hands injured on the road surface, while a nearby woman filmed the assault with her phone. The man said he feels "lucky to be alive".
    .
the city immediately released dash-cam video from the patrol car - an investigation is ongoing, the cop is off the street until further notice. City authorities have already announced this is unacceptable behavior by any officer; no word yet on a trial date.
The man was "resistive in the patrol car" & held overnite in jail, but Tuesday morning he was released, as there were no justified grounds to charge him with a crime.
No mention of any medical treatment or even any evaluation after the assault - he was simply transported, charged, & jailed overnight.
