    Not good news :(

His level as gone from 150 to 320 so my vet after talks with the referral vet are saying he has cholangiohepatitis, tho which type can only be confirmed with a liver biopsy, which the referral vets would like to do..ie open him up and take part of his liver.

I will update more later as I'm just going up there to collect some meds for him..

    I am gutted..

Oh Nicola, I am so sorry to hear this. I presume they think this is the chronic form? At least you would know what is ailing your little man and steps can be taken to help him be more comfortable (though I think you have already done the important ones such as diet, probiotics etc).

    Stay positive lady!

So sorry about Rileys blood results :(

Sending you both a massive hug.

I know nothing about Liver problems in cats but can the vets do a Ultrasound instead of a biopsy or will a scan not pick up Rileys problem.

    xxx

    Thank you..means a lot

Well the scale goes up to 1000 so 320 is not as bad as it could be, hopefully with the meds we can get it under control. I'm not keen on the liver biopsy to be honest as its a lot to put him through, after talking with the vet, even if we knew what type (yes it would be helpful) it would not alter the way in which we medicate, as if its one type he is already on chlorambucil which helps that and he is going to get a hefty dose of antibiotics (yet to be decided, as referral suggested norclav, which he can't have) that takes care of the other type.

I don't know whether to put him through that or not .. Always knew with the ibd there would be a risk of it affecting the liver and I guess it's good that the liver can regenerate so we can hopefully get it under control.

As for diet, he is still on kanagroo as the last try at changing caused a 7 month flare up, so I'm not in a rush right now. I need to read up tho whether the kangaroo is a suitable diet for his liver.

I am trying to stay positive as he is fine in himself right now, well apart from when he just had his pill!

Thank you, I think we have caught it early enough to get it under control..which is a good thing

Thank you on the ultrasound they said his liver looked normal, he had one very recently it was the blood tests that picked up the issue..for some reason in my head I thought they could do a fine needle biopsy..not sure where I got that from now..

Thank you..that means a hell of a lot! I did have a few tears earlier, until my leg was being used as a scratching post! Which made me realise he is still fighting and compared to what 3-4 months ago when he was at his worse, he has improved so much. He deserves for me to fight as well!

Plus from what I've read (google has been busy ) if we can get it under control with the meds, there s a good chance he could go into remission and as long as the ibd stays under control, the liver should behave itself..

    Sorry to hear this :(

I know just how much you love your little man and I know you will do what is best for him. If the biopsy is unlikely to change the course of action anyway, I wouldn't say it's worth it either, to be honest.

Poor Riley, he's been through so much! Sending him lots of hugs and get well vibes (as well as lots of ((((HUGS)))) for you) xX

Thanks..Riley would say thank you, but he is currently snoozing..:)

Luckily I have a good vet and a good referral vet that I feel I can work with and also I feel they listen to me and respect my views on the whole biopsy operation. I've not fully ruled it out, but they know I like to have more than just one option.

It's so important when your cat has a condition to find the right vet. I missed my vets call the first time. Called back she was with a patient. But she sent me a message to say that she would call me after 5 pm,said she did not leave a voicemail as she knew I would want to talk about it and ask questions..

Oh Nicola I'm so sorry its not better news.

Huge hugs coming you way from Mogwarts.

Its such a shock getting bad news about them, and I know I shed more than a few tears back in February (and since!), so if you need to, just let it all out, you'll feel better for it.

If you need to share, feel free to PM me, even if its just to shout about how unfair it all is *hugs* xxx
