My older dog has got mild degeneration of his discs and showed some pain when the Vet checked his spine. He sometimes sleeps on my bed but usually chooses the floor. Only recently has he decided that he would prefer a large soft dog bed instead of the floor. I wondered if it would be better for him to have an orthopaedic/memory foam bed instead.

Another bed that might help is the Hi-K9 raised beds which help eliminate any drafts from the floors, They also do thick pads and sheepskin style covers to go on them. Just wondering though, would your boy manage to climb on one? We have an extra large one and my three all pile on together, although given half a chance, Dolly, the old girl, will stretch out and try to hog all of it.

Thank you for those suggestions and I’ll have a look at all of them.

Yep, Orvis beds are worth every penny! My old arthritic lab had one of the memory foam ones: cost £200 but lasted 8 years, and I then cut up the foam to make new beds for inside Mac's crates!
Seeing as he's not a very chewy puppy, Mac has now got his very own Orvis bed. As you can see, it's a success :)

I got an off cut of memory foam for my old girl, it saved a few quid and is exactly the same, I just had to get a cover for it.

I have the oval shape Westie Mum recommends from Zooplus. (Used to be called “Karlie” orthopaedic dog bed).

Bought it half price from a Zooplus years ago. For “when she was older” but she loved it so much I couldn’t take it away.
She likes her bed but loves this one. I put fleece throws over it for convenience but the bed washes well. One of my best buys.

I had a look at them all and it helped me to decide that it was worth getting one. In the end I chose a sofa bed by silentnight as you can replace different parts. It has 4 layers with a pocket sprung mattress covered by memory foam. There was a sale on which helped.

I got my Yorkie the co-ordinating snuggle bed which was significantly cheaper!

Thanks. I just want him to be comfortable as I worry about him. I’m hoping my Yorkie doesn’t steal his...

    Will they share?

It would be sods law that they prefer each others bed though!

Ooo I really like the bed your Yorkie is on! I see you may have a problem with you new beds arrival

Though your other dog reminds me of my dog on a work morning before I get dressed...he's taken to going in the bathroom to wait for me, pull a towel off the holder and make himself comfy on the floor! The others stay in comfy beds waiting for me!

It was from TKmaxx and only £20. They only had the one and I’ve never seen it since.

I must admit am a TKmaxx pet aisle addict! They have really good bargains there... unfortunately last time I bought a bed there ironically it was memory foam...it lasted approximately 5 minutes no idea why unless the treats from the aisle scented it or something because my two had never done anything like it since, or prior but my old girl Tess and Stan my Yorkie played tug with it. That's how nice the bed was!
