Planning ahead? I got my 1st puppy 5 weeks ago and would definately get a crate. I got a pink one from doggie solutions! She settled at night within 2 days of being in there and I know she is safe. There is all kinds of stuff to get and loads that is just fun to buy - just like having a baby! I have managed to get most stuff online as most bits are cheaper than the likes of Pets at Home.

    blanket
    crate
    lead
collar (with tag- legally u need your surname, address and a contact no)
    toys

worming and flea stuff (from vet as its safer)
    treat
bordem busters such as a kong
puppy pads or news paper (i never bothered with either)

    puppy shampoo
sanity and paticence as your gonna need it
    training stuff (clicker? long line?)

    *Makes copy of hand list*

I'd also suggest something like a towel for cleaning paws after walks, although I've always used old ones of mine when I had my dog, it did the job!

Along with the other stuff people have suggested, it is a good idea to get an old blanket and bring it over to the puppy before you get him/her (to get all the scent on from pups mum/brothers/sisters) Then when you pick him/her up, put the blanket in the crate or bed that he/she will be sleeping in.

You should find that he/she will settle alot quicker and easier.

Jollyes are doing a good deal on puppy packs that include the crate, bed, food, toys etc.

Also it might be worth getting together a dog first aid kit.

    Hello
Don't forget to buy some No stain - for the little accidents on your carpet - lots of brands avaialble.
and a tick hook - (o'tom ones are the best) - lots of ticks about at the moment.

A buster treat ball - also known as activity ball or kong

    Nylabone

    :)
    enjoy your new family memeber

Having got my puppy 4 weeks ago I would advocate crating him/her overnight for certain. During the day I let Rupert roam the kitchen and leave his crate open simply because he is on his own for 4/5 hours and I don't want him upsetting himself by messing in the crate.

I would also recommend the DAP collars/diffuser. I scoffed at it at first but after weeks of complaining from neighbours I got both and it has made a difference, I am convinced.

If you get the diffuser and set it up in the room you want the pup to sleep in about a week before you get him, it should help.

I'd also go to your neighbours if you have any joint walls and explain you're getting a pup and apologise for any noise in advance.

Finally, enjoy it! They grow so fast. A lot of hard work/ determination needed but don't be afraid to ask for help!

something that i would not be without now are baby gates (for bottom of stairs and kitchen doorway) and a baby pen!

I have one of these which i got second hand and really cheap off ebay:
Babydan Playpen - Details Images & Prices
baby dan play pen items - Get great deals on Baby, lindam play pen items on eBay UK!

and I use it as a room divider and attach one end to the pups crate and then divide off a big corner/area of the room. this way they dont always have to be shut in their crate when i cant keep an eye!

Ooh also some lemon juice watered down, because after they have had an accident spray the lemon juice on to the area and they wont go there again - they hate the smell  On the plus side - it makes your room smell better than wee.

    Thanks Hun.
