What does it mean when a puppy approaches their food bowl very cautiously. Takes food from it and quickly backs away then goes to their bed to eat.

It's not uncommon for dogs to be wary of their bowl. They shape and material can make them nervous, for example if it is too deep, or in a corner, their peripheral vision might be compromised. If their collar or dog tag touches it, that can give them a fright. If it is stainless steel, it might be reflecting something. Or it might simply be different from what they were weaned on. Try experimenting with plates and different shapes.

Like above it could be numerous things, however based on experience, could be where the bowl is located? sounds silly but does make a difference. Also is this when you are in the room? as sometimes my pup likes to eat on his own as soon as we leave the room he will go to town on his food.
