Hello my pregnant pug has dropped in temperature. This morning it was 37c then noon was 36.8 . She’s been sick a yellow colour, been very tired all day. Clear mucus from her vagina . Yesterday she was panting randomly for about an hour . She was scratching this morning in my daughters bedroom, and was sniffing under my bed about 2 hours ago . Is this first stage of labour?

    It sounds like it.

How many days pregnant is she and do you have a whelping box set up?

Yes whelping cage is set up. I’m very very organised and got everything in that I may need for her, vets out of hours ready if needed . She’s only 54 days but having a large litter. Her temp is varying between mid 36 and 37c

54 days would be rather early, but, as she's having a large litter, it's not impossible.

The behaviour you describe does suggest she is uncomfortable and that could be that she is preparing to go into labour or because there are a lot of pups in a small space.

I would supervise her round the clock now and, if she goes outside, stay with her. Bitches can try to find a secluded place to deliver. One of mine got under the garden shed and I spent a hellish hour getting her back out.

We have had others come to the forum having bitches who have delivered early and the pups have been fine.

I am not really sure. Given that she has a large litter, the pups may be small if born early, and I think you must be prepared to help out with feeding.

    How many is she having?

She’s having between 5-7 which is quite a lot for a little pug. She’s very sleepy today. Bless her x

Ah, not a huge litter then.

She may well go another few days yet.

That could be the pups moving but, as I said, do supervise her closely now.

Usually, the first signs of labour are restlessness, digging/nesting, panting, loss of appetite and, sometimes, vomiting.
