Hi everyone, my whippet bitch gave birth to 7 healthy puppies on Friday 15th of april. We had her and the pups checked over by the vet later that day and he said she and they were fine, but she is still discharging small amounts of blood and mucous when she urinates. Is this normal (making me a worrier) or should I get it checked out by the vet? Please help.

Normal! Dont worry at this stage, as long as she smells fine at the back end and is eating and drinking normally, if she is smelly, or the discharge is smelly this could be an infection and needs Vet treatment.

My bitches tend to pass discharge for anything up to 6-7 weeks after giving birth, depending on the size of the litter. ;)

Thanks so much for your reassurance. It's been a long time since I did any breeding and I'm amazed at how much I'd forgotten. Ifeel much better now (and a bit of a fool for worrying):
