This should be in health and nutrition but not many of you go in there. Poor Crinks and THANK GOD for insurance (and working in a vets!!) I have had to take him twice this past week to work with me (Mon and Fri) as his deformed ear was playing him up and he was scratching at it enough to make the outside bleed slightly. So off he went with me to work, Emily the vet saw him on the Mon and tried to clean his ear but he was having none of it! She managed to get some wax out and gave him covenia injection and told me to put him on metacam that I had at home anyway and to bring him back on Fri for another cleaning. We were going to do that under sedation but Emily was on a course yesterday so as I want her to be the one to look after him I just took him back for a concious clean again.

The locum however is an eye specialist and had a look at his eyes that I knew there was something not quite right with but he seemed happy with them. Well the poor baby has Uveitis and will need long term anti-inflam eye drops. He may well develop Glaucoma in the future as he is already showing signs of having a 'big eye' but as it is not painful at the moment the vet doesn't think it is that just yet so I am to keep a really close eye on him.

He is coming back to work with me next Fri finally for the sedation so Emily can have a good look down his ear, x-ray his chest as he often stops mid play to cough and wheeze and blood tests for FIV FeLV and poss FIP

Please keep your fingers crossed for him, and that the insurance covers his eyes!!!

As you say ,thank god for insurance, cant see any reason why your insurer wouldnt pay out for treatment for his eyes,I would certainly expect them to.

The only good thing is he is still happy and seems to want me to continue fighting for him. Some people may say maybe with all his issues it is kinder to let him go but right at the moment that just isn't an option for me. So long as he is not suffering majorly (he hates his ear being cleaned or anything else doing to him so suffers slightly when it needs doing) then I can't see any reason to PTS If I hadn't fought for him in the first place when he was found to make sure he didn't go to a specific RSPCA branch that would have PTS straight away he wouldn't be here at all!

I don't expect them to pay out for any treatment for his ear, as that was clearly deformed from birth or soon after. He may have to have an operation to open the ear canal further down the side of the head to try to prevent future infections and this is something I won't claim for. I am just worried that they may say with his neuro issues that his eyes are due to that!??! As soon as I got him I took out insurance so fingers crossed! I just have never had to claim for anything before so it is all new to me.

As to being back to his old self, apart from the odd shake of his head causing him to fall over and a little more general unsteadiness he is pretty much the same as always, very happy mischevious and very loving even when he was so scared yesterday during his ear clean he just wanted to get away but wasn't trying to bite or anything bless him!!!

He really is!!! Even when he is falling on my head and leaving me with a 2 1/2" gash across my forehead!!!!

Him and Bugs love each other and are currently curled up asleep next to each other on the sofa! Apparently Bugs spends the whole day looking for Crinkle when I take him to work with me as they hate being apart! He really is SO naughty BUT that is why we love him!!! lol

i certainly wouldnt put poor crinkle to sleep, if anybody can help him have a long and happy life you can.

Trouble is he will never be 'on the mend' for most of it His ear we may be able to control with an op to stop infections but we want to see how he goes with it for now (and I need to save up money for the op!!) and his eyes are going to never get better but hopefully we have caught it early enough for it not to get too much worse for awhile anyway. His neurological problems will never get better but thankfully they don't seem to have gotten any worse since I got him. It is all kind of hanging in the balance of the blood tests next week!!

1st - fingers & paws crossed here for good news

2nd - will depend on insurers & the notes based on initial registering

gali had an inflamed eye - due to playfight with newts before i insured them
as i told them this, and its on my vets notes....if she has no eye problems till end of november (year from when she was proscribed antibiotics) her eyes will be covered without price increase

basically if shes clear for a year, its unlikely to be chylmidia

thats on her notes - i just have to tell them if shes clear in december to wipe that exemption

if you call them they should be able to tell you what is & isnt covered.

There is nothing on his notes RE his eyes prior to him being insured so hopefully it will be ok. He is with M&S for their lifetime cover.
