We have decided that we want a Bichon Frise. I have loved them for a few years now and we have decided that this is the breed we want. Especially after seeing 2 today that just melted our hearts and loved our sons.

What I would like to know is what do we need to research and where is the best place to look for information on them. I guessed we probably need to know what health tests Bichon's need and what the results mean. Anything else we should look into?

We are probably looking at getting one next year, once the boys are a bit older and maybe I will be able to drive by then.

Thank you for all your help.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait and also worth going to a reputable breeder that does the health tests for bichons:D

Plenty of time to do all your research and find the right breeder.
    Sounds perfect.

Oh that's brilliant - they are fantastic little dogs and full of fun and character.:D
I have just looked on the Kennel club site and can't find any health test recommendations for Bichons.

They are quite an healthy breed and as long as you get some sort of insurance in place then you should be fine.:)

Lol, well we had a bbq tonight for my little brothers 3rd birthday and my bichon escaped out the front an wouldnt come back when we called him cos hes a cheeky boy!
So we closed the door and 2 minutes later we heard a scratch at the door and there he was with his big puppy eyes!
Then we gave him a sauasage, just couldnt resist! :D

My Bichon wouldn't have stepped foot out of the door if someone was cooking sausages, he's a right greedy little so and so. They are still playfighting now and our 10 week old puppy looks like she's winning, she keeps holding on to his ears.

Yes my male is a big Bichon too. He's on a diet at the moment but it's so hard because he's constantly wanting food but I'm determined he will lose weight if I have to starve him. I think he will lose weight running around with the puppy when she can go out for walks next week.
    How old is your Bichon?

    My bichon is 3 :) 4 in november :D
He needs to go on a diet, but it is surprising how big he is. Its not just fat because he isnt Fat but he is tall and in proportion. I'll get some pics up when im on my desktop. Im on my laptop and there aren't any photos of him on here at the moment. How old is your eldest ?

Thanks for that link Jazzy. Just got to research now. At least now we know that there are no health tests to look for.

I think you might find that some breeders do hip scoring and patella and also eye testing even though it doesn't mention anything on the KC site. The breed club will be able to tell you more about what breeders are testing for.
I know that for my breed the KC only suggests eye testing but most of us do it. And also hips and Fanconi which is a fatal disease in my breed.
