For those of you that don't know, Huskybob and I (along with our 3 huskies) are working/volunteering as kennel hands at a working Siberian Husky kennel in the middle of Sweden for the season (possibly until the end of April). There are 59 huskies and 1 malamute whose names we are slowly learning.

I thought I'd make a thread that I can keep updated and add pictures to, rather than starting lots of new threads. :)

Today we took Cooper and Maya for a walk. They're like an old married couple. Cooper doesn't really get on with other dogs and Maya can be a bit of a cow apparently but they share a pen and seem to like talking to each other. Cooper is the mal and I think he's Rob's favourite. He's a rescue dog and doesn't like running. He is gorgeous.

Then we walked Music (black/white) and Balto (white). Music can't run in harness as he has a problem with his trachea. He also has a benign tumour which hopefully will be removed soon.

This is Nugget, who sadly has cancer. The vets have said there's nothing they can do but his owner gives him lots of herbal supplements and tablets and he's still enjoying life.

And incase anyone wondered what it sounds like when a huge pack of dogs decide to start howling at the same time (you have to turn your speakers up to full and it still won't sound as loud as actually being there!)...

Good idea with the thread and also nice for you to look back on once you come home. Lovely dogs but obviously I love Cooper, beautiful boy. Love the howling but played it soft otherwise this lot would join in no doubt.
Great adventures ahead for you and the dogs. :)

There is something special about these type of dogs, maybe for me it's because they are so wolflike to see and hear, natural, raw survivors if that makes sense. Nugget seems to have such 'knowing' eyes, he is lovely.

The howling is beautiful but eerie!

    Welcome to Sweden :)

It's a shame that you're not staying further North, it would have been nice to meet sometime.

It does't look like you've got much snow yet (about the same amount we have here), but I'm sure there will more :)

Sherwood looks so gentle, and Tazlina so pretty, Dasher is, well dashing, and with those eyes a bit primeval.

Looking forward to more, dont apologise about the amount, I think I can speak for all of us :D

Me neither! Sadly the snow has turned to ice which means the dogs can't run so we've got our fingers crossed for a heavy snowfall so they can get the big sled out.

I haven't been good at updating this thread have I?

Firstly there was a storm and the internet was off for nearly 4 weeks and then a couple of weeks ago I slipped on the ice, damaging my back. I've been bed bound meaning there's been no pictures and no fun!

In the past few weeks all 3 of our dogs have escaped. Kindra and Yla escaped from the back of the car one evening when it was dark. Kindra bolted to the road with Yla being her little shadow. It was very frightening as there are no lights on the road and it's very icy. We're lucky there's hardly any traffic as Rob found then about 4 miles away running in the middle of the road.

Then the other day Broder was dragging the poo into the forest when his lead came unclipped. He decided to follow fresh elk tracks and Rob lost sight of him. He eventually slowly made his way back near the house and he was safe. I was still unable to walk much at this point so was of no use. I was thinking that Broder would do something stupid like wake up a hibernating bear and get eaten. None of the dogs were missing for more than an hour.

Apart from that everything is going well. The owners are away most of the time running tourists at a ski resort 6 hours away so we've got quite a lot of responsibility. Sadly Nugget, who had cancer, had to be put down.

The temperature has been around -24, meaning that often the camera doesn't work. When it does it struggles with the amount of white due to the snow so sadly the photos aren't that clear.

Broder has been given the job of pulling the huge amounts of poo uphill into the forest. It's hard work and he has to pull through rather deep snow but he really enjoys it.
