Now this weekend we've spent quite a long time in the park over the two days so I thought I would post some pics. Now for most people this is a normal part of the weekend in the city if you have dogs but for us it's a massive acheivement.

We adopted Ely (our black boy) 11 months ago and as recently as 7 months ago he was afraid to go outside and so terrified of other dogs that we were walking at midnight and 6am to avoid seeing any.

    This is him this weekend:

Check out how close the other dogs are in the background!

    Do you think he's relaxed?

And a couple of Gypsy looking beautiful so she doesn't feel left out:

Sorry for all the pics but we're just so proud of him. This was unthinkable even three months ago. :D He will now greet polite dogs (who are both on and off lead) even on the pavement and he doesn't try to run away.

Oh bless Ely! He looks SO relaxed! You have put in SO much love and hard work into his improvement and happiness  This must be so rewarding for you, to see him so chilled out! (and Gyspy, of course, is devastatingly beautiful!) :001_wub: Lovely pics! :D

It's just so nice to see him doing normal doggy things and not freaking out at the smallest strange noise. Madam is of course totally unphased by all things (she was fascinted by the police horses that were out for today's match) but for Ely just going to that park was a big deal - being able to lie down and relax while other dogs are running around and not have him watch them obsessively is amazing.

Awww, bless him! I think you mentioned before that Gypsy helped a lot by just being calm and showing him how to be relaxed? I wish Nero could show Amber how to be a little calmer!

I'd love to see more pictures of them, if you have any? They are just so lovely!

Yes, without Gypsy I don't think this would be possible - we'd brought him as far as we could without another dog. I don't think he was cut out to live as an only dog.

I'm not sure Nero could be more laid back! :p Maybe he needs to give Amber lessons rather then just lead by example? :D How are poor Mr Nero's teefs?

I have so many photos - not sure I ever take any of anything else! I'll pick some of my faves and post them up.

This one is from the spring off lead day (can't take the credit for it - my photography skills and camera aren't that good! :tongue_smilie:)

Gypsy's favorite game - chase the spaniel.

    Yay! happy photo times! :D

Nero is doing really, really well, thanks! He's gaining more weight even though it's only been 7 days since his op- I think he's feeling SO much better without the constant pain of his teeth- having them taken out was the hardest but best decision I've had to make so far.

Amber has been really good with him, she has been more calm around him, so I think she can tell he's not up for playing while he's on the painkillers, though he's much more with it now he's only on the metacam.

My camera died a long time ago, which is why I've been doing more youtube videos and webcam shots- so I have to rely on others for out n about shots  One day we'll get a new camera :p

You must have worked really hard to get him to that stage. The pictures made me smile!

I'm so glad - he's had such a hard time of it poor baby. And clever Amber - Gypsy had no sense while Ely was dosed up after having his dew claw sorted. She just trampled all over him until we took her out!

Oh my camera is just the one on my phone - I keep meaning to buy a new one but then I see something else the dogs desperately need and it all goes out the window. :tongue_smilie:

Oh my gosh! They're phone pics? wow, that's amazing... I really wouldn't have known. I think in my head phones are still as they were about three years ago, with about 3 pixels and hope!

I know what you mean about money. We've had some tough moments and comments thrown at us about money, but the truth of it is that the dogs come first. For instance, I need my molar out, but Nero comes first, and he was certainly in more pain than I am!

I love the pic of Gypsy chasing the spaniel!

Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments. He's certainly been hard work (and not at all the easy first dog I expected a greyhound to be!) but it's all worth it for weekends like this.

It's Clissold Park in Stoke Newington and we're really lucky that it's usually full of well mannered, well socialised dogs that have convinced him that not all non-pointy dogs are scarey mentalists. Added to that our wonderful second dog Gypsy and I feel like we can't take too much credit.

Although how he is now much better then we ever expected as our behaviourist said we shouldn't be too upset if he never wanted to have anything to do with other dogs!

Tam, I've just gotten to the point where I ignore other people now. I've given up negotiating with my family and I just inform them of the options and ask them to pick one! Hope you get your tooth sorted soon - I've just had to have an impacted wisdom tooth done. Not fun!
