My daughter Kimmy has started to take up photography, she's 14, and she seems to sway towards abstract, so i said to her i'd put a couple on here to get an honest opinion and constructive critisism from some of you experts.:D

Great photos, but personally not keen on the light shade one. The alleyway is great, would be very atmospheric if you could go with her while she got a photo of it in a full moon. ;)

Don't know anything about photography so I can't give any pointers.

Just wanted to say she has an artistic eye. I think they are great photo's.
A talent to be nurtured I think

1st and 2nd ones are cool, don't understand the other three. There doesn't seem to be any points of focus or somewhere to attract the eyes on them.

    They are seriously good.

Think you have to have that "special" eye to do abstract and she certainly has that.

I too love the ducks ( I for one would not look at them and think to photograph them)

    The alleyway is brilliant.

I thought the "lightshade" was one of those plug drainers and was thinking how clever to put a torch behind it!! And I really liked that one:eek: See told you you have to have that "special" eye. I certainly do not.

I think she will go a long way

Out of them all, number one is the best, the depth of field is pretty good.

Number four is very good, with the leading line along the bottom of the fence drawing the viewer's eye slowly into the centre of the image. However, there is just a little bit too much distraction in the centre-right of the photo. A slightly different position would make this much better, maybe just take the shot a little lower.

In photo number five, pointing the camera up from the bottom of the tree and then maybe using the fisheye setting on the camera (if it has one) would create a fairly effective panoramic shot from a vertical angle.

If your daughter wants any camera advice or hints and tips from a fellow teenage snapper, just give me a shout.

Thanks mate, she just lacks a little confidence, and it didn't help when she showed her older brother and he just said they're crap without even looking at them properly:)

Confidence in showing photographic art is something that is gained over the years, just tell her to ignore her brother. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the photos, success comes from practice and even the pros flub up shots from time to time; it's what makes photography fun. ;)

I love the ducks and the lightshade - in fact i think they're all good. My least favourite would be the gnomes one.
