Has anyone checked out Kelly Dunbar's (Dr Ian Dunbar's wife) shelter programme?

Open Paw - building lifelong positive relationships with pets

I have mentioned this on another thread, but thought it would quite nice to share here too. It would be nice to see this more routine socialisation/training programme adopted in some of the shelters in the UK. It may take more work, but I imagine kennel blocks would be a lot calmer in general.

Open Paw is the most amazing program. Hopefully Kelly will be coming to the UK (and paws crossed Ireland) soon :) :D :D

Kelly is an amazing dog trainer, far better than Ian (he might even agree with that & said very much tongue in cheek :biggrin5: ) She has also extensively been working on nosework too so will hopefully bring that across the atlantic also!

Ah, yeah, I saw she had a blog about 'nosework'. Ian has said a few times that Kelly is a much better trainer than he is! :D

This programme has given me some hope for rescues. It's simple, but very effective if kept consistent. Only thing I would second-guess is keeping the food bowls in the dog's eye sights. If they kept them on the walls by the kennels, where they were harder to spot, there would be more association with the people rather than just food comes from the bowl, via people. I don't know, I'm probably just nit-picking!
