I wasnt sure whether to put this in the Rainbow Bridge, Cat or Dog section so apologies.

I am angered and sickened to the stomach that people are allowed to keep animals without giving them the proper care. I believe all animal owners need a license.

Our beloved 15 year old cat Oliver (Olly) was savagely attacked yesterday afternoon. He was put to sleep because his injuries were so severe. We are distraught as a family and it feels like I have lost a brother almost. We rescued him when he was a year old, he ventured into our neighbourhood, starved and malnourished. Despite 'Found Cat' posters being put up, the RSPCA said we could adopt him as no one had reported him missing. So we did. And he was a happy and loved member of our family from then on.

The dog who killed our boy was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who we now know was kept in squalid conditions, along with 2 other dogs. The dog has now been destroyed and the other 2 have been taken away. The family are also being investigated by social services as apparently the house is so filthy, its not fit for animals, let alone their children. The dogs were caged and unsocialised 24/7, but it just so happened that this dog managed to escape and went on a rampage.

Not only did it attack and kill Olly, he also attacked a 12 week old puppy (who is ok) and bit the owner in the face who was then rushed to hospital for stitches. Olly was dragged around the neighbourhood as the dog would not let go (lock jaw?). When he saw the puppy, he dropped Olly who was unconscious but still alive. He suffered a punctured lung, amongst other things. My mum rushed him to the vets, where she stroked and comforted him. He began purring so he knew she was there.

We are all devasted. Thankfully, neither my mum or myself witnessed this horror. I was at work and my mum was inside unaware. But just going by what witnesses have said, its enough to scar us. No longer will our gorgeous boy greet us by the front door when we come home from work. He was always outside, defending off other tom cats! he was popular with the school children who used to pass by in the mornings and call him 'the lion', and he was always so gentle with them.

We are prosecuting the owners to get justice for our family member who was taken away from us when it wasnt his time to go. I just cannot stop thinking about the details, although I didnt witness it, I have these images in my head that I cannot get rid of and its heart breaking. I just hope and pray that Olly didnt suffer too much, and that hopefully the shock of it all was enough to numb some of the pain. He was a real fighter throughout his life. He lost his tail after being hit by a car when he was younger and managed to survive pneumonia. He was a real bruiser who was known throughout the neighbourhood, definitely the top cat.

I would like to make this all clear though, that I do not blame the dog or the breed. Staffies do have an undeserved bad reputation, and I have come across some very aggressive ones but then I know so many daft and soppy staffs - its down to the owner to love, train and socialise them and make sure that their pet is not a danger to others. Its about being a responsible pet owner and I really do think there needs to be a new law about owning dogs, no matter what the breed. There have been so many cases of fatalities, both animals and humans involving dogs and something needs to be done.

You will be sadly missed old boy, take care of all the others up there! Its still so raw and Im relying on time to heal these wounds.

    R.I.P Olly xXx

i am so so sorry to hear this devastating story:(. you must be absolutely heartbroken and also distraught about how this happened. i'm glad though that you are able to realise that this was not the dogs fault, he too is a victim in this story. so many staffies are blamed for things that are the fault of the human:mad:
Olly looked a gorgeous boy and did not deserve to end his days like this - i really do feel for you and your family - and of course for your beautiful Olly

RIP Olly, run free at the bridge free from pain

What a saddening and shocking thing to happen. :frown2:

RIP Olly. I know its not much of a help right now , at least we know that appropriate action is being taken against the owners of the dogs.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

I hope olly did not suffer too much in the end. It must have been devastating for you and your family.

I am glad that you do not blame the dog and the owners are being investigated. But I wish it wasn't these circumstances that initiated the investigation.

Run free in rainbow bridge. Lost but never ever forgotten.

How heartbreaking for you, so sorry, Ollie was beautiful. I don't know what else to say as it makes you so angry to think about people like this owning animals and sad for the dogs really. I'm glad too that your Mum was with Ollie. RIP sweet boy.

This is an absolutely terrible way to lose your darling boy, and my heart goes out to you. The images that must be forcing themselves into your mind can only be dreadful.

I am so glad that he had someone who loved him with him at the end, and I'm sure that brought him comfort, and helped him to cope with what had happened.

People who bring up their dogs to behave in this fashion are absolute scum and should never be allowed to have a pet or a child.
