Hi all,
New here, just looking for some thoughts or advice.
A few months ago we adopted an elderly cat (15 but surprisingly spritely). They had noticed some diarrhea in the shelter and had standard tests run not detecting anything. In hindsight we maybe should have thought more about taking her as its our first pet and we didnt really appreciate the care she may need. The shelter told us that she had been fine with them on a strict diet which we have continued in the same way. The first while was fine, however increasing recently shes been vomitting (at least 4 or 5 times per week) and has soft poos around half of the time, no obvious pattern to it either. Shes been to the vets when we first got her, where they said to keep her on the diet and maybe an ultrasound might be neccesary. She was at the vet again today, where they had a look and could see inflammation and signs of her kidneys struggling (not too major) and prescribed her antibiotics.
We are becoming more and more worried about her health, and as it was indentified at the adoption centre, it isnt covered by our insurance, adding financial concern. Again, in hindsight perhaps this was irresponsible as it was inevitable that she would need care being so old. However now we are in a position where we dont know the best course of action.
Im not expecting miracles here, its just nice to get the opinons of some more experienced pet owners!
