    Sad news PFers:

Got the bad news this afternoon that Rodney, my ancient , reliable and beloved old rover 200 has failed his MOT based on rust....

This car has never faltered in blizzards, sheet ice, black ice, ridiculously steep inclines, off road, mud, huge house moves, floods.. you get the idea..

They said it would cost at least 400 to investigate the rust, I went down to get him full of promise to save him... the mechanic essentially called a spade a spade and said this would cost me a fortune and that whilst he is mechanically sound the rest of him is failing... I love this bloomin car...

But he will be sold on for spares/scrap..

Is it normal to feel this about a good auld car, this is partially tongue in cheek but i do really love him- farewell pal!!

Anyone else missed their cars/ anyone selling a cheap car ;)

Have to admit to missing the feel of driving a proper mini and I have owned about 3 of the blighters. Its a bit like riding a motorbike, you get the 'nods' from other 'proper' mini drivers.
Was sad to see the old purple micra go too when I picked up me new car 2 years ago. That little micra cost me £275, and apart from a new battery didnt let me down. The clutch was slipping like fook but the old gal tried her hardest to get me up the hills and always succeeded :biggrin5:. She looked like she had been dragged through every hedge backwards but she soldered on :D.

This is it... some dafty ran into me at a roundabout a few months back so he went in for bodywork and they gave me a 2013 courtesy..... yeah it was warm, didn't have to scrape the insides of the windows, had a digital radio and not a TAPE PLAYER... but you know what.. it just didn't run so smoothly, was sooo loud etc.

Sigh. There's a lot to be said for old cars, I totally appreciate our high road safety standards but they don't make em' like they used to!!!

275 and your micro sounds amazing- purple makes it ALL the better :D, i love a battered old reliable car!!!!

Dearly beloved first generation Subaru Forester born 1998. Worked reliably on and off road hauling logs out of the forest in temperatures of well below 40C. Lovingly serviced every 8,000 kilometres. Washed and waxed every two weeks. Never failed an MOT whilst in my possession.
Killed outright in a head on collision with a van driver during a heavy blizzard 27th December 2011.

I cried my bloody eyes out when I was forced to leave what remained of the faithful old girl by the side of the road 500 kilometres from home.

Subaru just don't build a Forester like they used to.:

Sorry to hear about our poor cars :(

I fear this year will be the last MOT my Fifi ( Fiat Brava) has :( and I'm gutted, she is so reliable, never let me down and has lived through being stolen from me and rear ended! :( going to be heartbroken lol

Got to start saving for a new car! it's going to be a hard act to follow :(

I came across a picture of your car and in my expert opinion yes it needs a bit of welding doing thats for sure

    oh you poor soul ):
this is my little moggy (the steel one not the flesh one!)

Ive had her for almost 4 years now, first car and only car - the rust set in (though admittedly there was some there to begin with...) and I begged and begged my dad to help. A few weeks ago he came and took her away on a trailer and phoned me yesterday to say it was bad, but not un-saveable - so grateful to have a knowledgable dad and to be able to keep my little girl.

Sorry to hear about your rover, surprised it is rust rather than head gasket thats killed her! At least with rust you can see it coming :hugs
