    Hello,

I have been looking in to getting a chinchilla (or two if possible) for a few years now and finally want to take the plunge now that I will be working part-time. I have tried to source breeders but can only find ones in the North west/south and do not want to have to make the chinchilla travel for hours to its new home. Only other place that sells is pets at home and I know they are not the best for small furries.

why not make enquiries to rescues that are nearer?
People love to buy chinchillas because theyre soft n cute and furry, not realising that they have such a long lifespan ( maybe upto 20+ years) and so many end up being dumped, hopefully into rescue, but not always ( one of mine was found on a golf course and one wandering down the middle of the road)
Im sure, if you did a search, you'd find either a small animal rescue or, sometimes even bigger rescue, like rspca, nearby that has a bonded couple

There are several reputable breeders in your general area. Although you cannot transport chins in this heat, chinchillas do travel well in cooler conditions. Wait till the heat is over and then come back here and I'll try and link you with a breeder.

I know of one in West Lothian if that's not too far for you? One of my girls came from her and she is super tame with the most wonderfully calm sweet temperament. I wouldn't buy them from PetsAtHome unless you really have no other choice as they are not bred well and they don't socialise them to be tame. My nearest one has stopped selling them altogether thankfully, as they weren't going and were ending up being stuck on the shop floor for months.

Bit further away but a good breeder http://www.paulspoonerchinchillas.co.uk/
If you've got facebook join 'chinchillas for sale uk' as many breeders are on there. Some also accept pet couriers now if distance is an issue.
I'd rather not put details down for those without websites etc that are in the public domain.

What is the name of the West Lothian breeder from whom you got your girl? I do not know whether one can post names in a forum but if not, a link, perhaps? Does s/he have a web site?

If it's who I know of (and I'm pretty sure it is) they had to give up breeding sadly.

I post this just in case, as Inverness may be a bit too far from you. I do not have direct experience of the rescue because my boy comes from a local SSPCA, but the small animal rescue in Inverness (which goes under the name Wee Critters) has two female chins, mother and daughter, waiting for a home together.

Arny could you message me please with a name? I just want to know if we're talking about the same person and I don't like to do so on an open forum. Don't want to ask them direct incase I make an idiot of myself if it's not them.

Have you tried preloved or Friday ad, if you pick your way through you might find the perfect one.
