    Hi all,

We are picking up our new rescue puppy on Sunday who’s been in foster for 2 weeks. He’s 5 months old and we have got everything we think we need, has anyone got any tips or tricks that would be helpful or anything specific you think would be useful to have?

Thank you for any info it would be much appreciated!

Hello and welcome. What breed is your pup ? My advice would just be to give him time to settle in. Take him out for the toilet regularly. Think about sleeping arrangements have someone stay with him initially as he will be a bit scared and worried don’t leave him to cry.

I found kongs a lifesaver when mine was younger. Find out what food he’s on and maybe use that initially. Oh and get some sleep now :D

I would try to gather as much information about the pup from the fosters , about his background and things like his routine and what food he has been eating.

They don’t know the breed of the pup as he was found in a field with his brothers and the mum was nowhere to be seen, however they think he may be a lab cross. Thank you for the info, we’re all preparing for some sleepless nights ahead :D we bought a kong today, what kinds of things would be best to put in there to occupy him? He’s on Greenacres at the moment however we cannot get that anywhere around us so we are going to slowly wean him onto James Wellbeloved as that is what he was on before it became discontinued where the fosterer lives.

Mashed banana, scrambled egg or soft cheese. You can also put soaked kibble in the kong. Poor little pup being left in a field but they are very resilient.

I’d have him sleep close to me at first so he has company and feels more secure. Easier too to hear him stir for toileting and to settle if he starts to fidget once you know he’s been.

Don’t rush the walking and socialisation but introduce him gradually to his new surroundings to build on positive experiences.

I’d allow him a small, select group of well mannered buddies with considerate owners and teach him to avoid the rest.
