Oooh, that is really cool---is the strip running up the corner a central support, or does it just happen to be there? And is everything else secured to studs with screws? We are going to be doing similar things soon, so I'm collecting ideas :)

The strip up the middle is heating pipes, havent taken pics of it completely finished but the pipes are now boxed up, we thought there because there will be some heat coming off the pipes for them. If you look under the shelves there is 3 strips of wood in a triangle shape. These are screwed in the brickwork and the shelf is screwed in on top. The dog managed to get on the bottom one  so its deffinatly sturdy :D

Oh I bet they love the heat running up in between there.

The cats will have their own official room in the new place (which will double as a guest room) and we were thinking of having climbing places along the walls, as well as having a half door so the cats can get in and out, but the dogs can't. I bought one of those lovely dog cats with a wee cat door, but the dogs were able to easily scamper through the "cat" door so that was a waste. They aren't big climbers, though, so I was thinking with the half door, if we just put something for them to be able to climb, but that won't be obtrusive and difficult for us to get in and out. Your idea fits the bill for that--maybe put two of those platforms on each side of the door or on the wall beside the door. Then more inside---how fun!!
