Hi, I've just joined here as recommended by a like minded animal mad friend so am hoping to gain lots of knowledge about cats. It's been around 10 years since we had them as pets and I wouldn't commit to owning any more pets as my job was demanding and with a growing family, would have been unfair.
I'm in my later years now and kids are grown up so we decided to adopt rescue guinea pigs and now have 20 very spoiled indoor fur babies and they rule our lives. Holidays etc. are non existent and our lives really do centre around them.
Anyhow, we have been offered the opportunity to adopt a rescued female cat and two of her babies and will be ready around October so have time to plan. We live in a quiet cul-de-sac and the kitties would have full run of the house all day/night and the lounge locked where the piggies live unless we're in there :nono: We would like them to be indoor cats, have a conservatory they will be accessing and am really looking forward to having them in our lives again.
I never knew very much about guinea pigs until I joined a forum and have really good skills with them now, illnesses etc. so it makes sense to be able to give the cats the best care too but as far as anything other than basic care skills, have little knowledge really :( so need to be a great mummy to them ;) We have Vets we trust so at least that's one thing off my tick list :D
Looking forward to learning lots of tips, (sharing worries) and generally chatting about our fur loves when they arrive here.
First question I have is how old do little boys need to be before neutered ? The kittens will both be 'done' after we have them - mummy is being spayed before rehoming
Thanks for reading and any advice welcome :thumbup1:

    Hi and welcome :)

There is a load of information down the page in the cat forums so pop down and join in.

Neutering - sooner the better and from 12 weeks if your vet supports something called "Early Neutering" - some will make you wait until a particular weight has been reached, and some have other ideas. I have 3 cats, all boys, and 2 were done at 12 weeks, my other one at 5 months-ish (approx 1 week too late, after he had realised what his bits were for!)

Lurk no more - welcome to you and your noisy and rapidly increasing family!

Can I say how lovely it is that you are able to take two of the kittens as well as mammy cat - they will be so happy together with you. Look forward to your pics in the near future.

I have to say I'm a little jealous, I have had little bit of a crush on Flossy since CG first posted about her and her kittens are just stunning! So congratulations and welcome..... And please promise to give us lots of updates on your new family when they finally arrive :)

Thank you all, we are really excited about the kitties coming home next month and know CG (Sally) will have a hard time letting them go :frown5: We live fairly close so she can pop in to see Flossy and the kitties as often as possible - she has to come and vet our house first to make sure we're suitable slaves  :D
Lots of things to buy for them still and have had some great advice off CG today with foods etc. so am feeling more confident now as we take all of our fur babies welfare seriously and want to give them a wonderful future with us :cornut:
Still unsure on names - can't agree  I like Claude, Marcel, Pepe les Paws, Thorn, Stitch, Tumble (my daughter's choice)...too many...think we'll wait until they're here before making decisions :biggrin5:
Really enjoyed having cuddles with them today and will be counting the weeks now :D

 Aw, typical after they all decided to snooze in a heap earlier - my daughter cracked up at the pics we took of them, just a jumble of pink paws, ginger tails and fluff :biggrin5:
Have ordered Flossy a lovely cream coloured double fleece with pink hearts on so she can choose 'her' spot on the sofa in front of the fire. Methinks she is going to become a real Diva

    Hello! :)

I'm sure you will learn loads on PF, I did, and everyone is so friendly and helpful :)

When I first got Missy (August 12th this year) I knew nothing about cats but with every ones help I very soon learnt, and remember no question is a silly question :)

I've got a little bundle of fluff on the way as well, hopefully I will get him mid to late November, he's a rescue by one of the amazing ladies on here as well, I can't wait :D

Thank you - I saw the little cutie you're having, he's utterly yummy :biggrin5: He will need a specialist home - I have an array of rescue guinea pigs and some have medical issues, cataracts, bladder issues, hormonal and heart and kidney problems to name a few so need an experienced owner. I don't think of vets bills anymore as it is part of their care package. Two special piggy boys are also coming 'home' soon who have had an awful start, one has no toes on his back feet, just stumps and he and his brother carry the satin gene which can have an impact on their bones as they get older so am preparing myself...:)
