It does make the new posts page more cluttered doesn't it?

 

Is that showing up when you go to the what's new page? I can't see it on my phone.

Strikes me as pointless. I read what I want to read going by the title. I don't need it to be turned into a popularity contest Bah humbug!

 

It's just another gimmick from Vertical Scope. At least its less annoying than the AI.

 

Trying to appear more like a social media app I guess? 🙄

 

This is a feature that used to exist - many members were sad to see it go when it was removed - we decided to bring it back to see what users thought.

I don't remember oblong boxes with a green spot in them. Don't you think it is a bit too prominent as if it were important? It certainly isn't to me because I don't remember anything similar in the last 11+ years.

 

I joined in 2012 and don't recall seeing it either. Maybe I'm just not too observant. I tend to stick to the same few things.

 

Yeah, that's ANNOYING. And pointless, because as you say, it is just bots. Apparently the owners are pulling out all the stops to "revive" this forum.

The main problem I suspect is the ads. I use an ad block but still get ads. Imagine a new person coming in and trying to make a post and being constantly blocked by ads. Who would come back after that? They are going to do this forum in, just on the ads.

 

I've been here for a long while and I don't remember this being a feature at all.

 

Who's online used to be a feature, but there was never a who's reading feature that I remember and I've been here a long time too.

 

I've been a PF member for over 10 years and never seen this reading number whatsit before.

Oh and could you do us a favour by asking Frank whats his name to reply to the threads in intelligible English ...... we're mainly British on the forum and I for one don't take kindly to being American-ised!

Being essentially British IMO has been one of the main strengths of of this forum and now you're ruining it by trying to put it into one characterless "melting pot".

It's not people, it's bots. If you click on the "who's online" it's a lot of bots...

 

Yes, and that is my objection, aside form the annoyance factor. It's misleading at best, but really just plain lying.

I do think that the forum owners, in their efforts to increase traffic here are not taking into consideration that, while there aren't a lot of new threads, many of us have gotten into the habit of just posting in those long running type threads.

Back in the day people started a separate thread for every thing they had to say. Now we've got numerous varieties of random chat, random cat chat, random dog chat, morning threads, complaining threads, etc.

I think we've gravitated to those because specific topic threads don't seem to generate much interest any more, though I much preferred them.

Actually it's worse than useless - it makes it hard to spot which threads I'm 'following' e.g. which I've replied to.

If it was so many years ago, are any of those active still around? I haven't seen any posts in favour from those very longstanding members.

 

@lorilu has been a PF member since 2009 and as far as I'm aware she doesn't remember it being a feature. As @Calvine says the PF owners should have the records and history going back to day one, and be able to give us dates and details.

 

I've been a member since 2008 and a mod since about 2010 and I have never seen this feature before nor anyone complaining that it had been removed.

 

I'm an hour ahead of the UK and I find it difficult to believe 102 people were reading the Good Morning Thread at what in the UK was 6.30 on a Saturday morning! Totally out of proportion to all the other threads which counted together only amounted to half a dozen people.

Too bad we aren't getting anywhere. The bot count is still there, still misleading. The powers that be are ignoring us, in spite of claiming they want our opinions.

I had a boss like that lol. She loved pretending she was all open minded and would have these stupid unscheduled meetings to tell us what she was planning and to ask our opinions. We all soon learned that she'd already made her decision and if you voiced an opinion it was just an opportunity for her to shoot down the one who spoke up. She thought it made her look good and fair.

Oh well, off topic, but you can see my point. They don't really care what we, the members, think or want. They just pretend they do because it looks good.

To be fair, I suppose its hard to defend the indefensible ...

 

Quite honestly, I don't much care if this 'feature' exists or not.
But I can't work out why in post #16 Christian says it used to exist if it didn't, and mighty odd that not one person can remember it - (I'd expect and hope with a name like Christian he would be telling the truth).
He also said they were 'bringing it back to see what we thought'. Well, people have made it clear what they think, so what are they planning to do with it?
