hello new to the site, wanting a bit of help with my 3yr old JRT (female)
first of all she is a loving and playfull dog house trained really quickly, ive had her from been about 14 weeks old,she is now 3 yrs old,she has been spayed and never had a litter or a season, loves to play ball well she is obsessed with the ball playing.
but the isues im having with her are as follows
1,she hates children being around her especially if they are on skate boards etc
she gets very nervous and wants to pull the lead or if off lead she runs away.
2,If anyone gets to close to her whilst been walked on the lead she gets scared and pulls forward on the lead (hence why i hold the lead really tightly)
3,she needs to get used to people before she will go anywhere near them she gets close(ish) but tends to cower away but when doing it shes close to the floor.
4,If other dogs come running towards her she runs away even if they are just wanting to play, tail goes under.but is ok with other jack russels if she knows them.
she does know commands like sit, paw, stay (ish) and i do reward her by stroking her head and saying good girl, when she has sat or given paw.
my worse nightmare came true last week when i was in the park with her she was off lead and a big dog came out from no were and chased her then she ran so fast i couldnt find her,she ended up going back home but had to cross 2 main roads no harm done thank god,but she was a bit shaken a guy stopped to help me find her who said he had stopped because he nearly knocked her over.
any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Sorry for your scare, I have met some very nervy JRTs before, (odd because one of the character traits they are bred for is gameness but I guess it depends what you are asking them to do)

It sounds like you need to work on her socialisation skills some more, I am sure someone will be along with advice on how to do that as I haven't much experience, apart from to say that training classes can really help or perhaps some 1-1 time with a behaviorist will help point out where you are going wrong. If she is obsessed with a ball then you are halfway to having a good training tool already!!

Regarding her running off, if its that much of a risk then perhaps you shouldn't be letting her off lead in high risk situations until you have her better socialised?? (or at all as you can never be certain whats around the corner)

Ive started putting her back on the lead especially when its dark as she seams to dislike the dark, but i do talk to her if were walking were its dark,to put her at ease.
    thanks for your post :)
