So we had our degu in a ball when the ferrets were running around, and a couple hours later our degu somehow got out of his ball and the ferret cornered him and bit him on top of the head, behind the ear, its been almost 3 days now, he does want to run but is stuck turning to the right, he has been eating some of that nutrient powder milk that you put water into, and somedays he has not. What can I do to help him, it seems he's getting better and somedays he's just terrible. He's only about 4 months old.[IMG]

    Take him to a vet.

Don’t have them out at the same time in future.

    Ditto.
    Vet, now.

Next time keep the ferrets away - they are hunters after all!

    3 days!
Why haven't you taken him to a vet yet?
Just cos he's small and, relatively, cheap, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the same care as a £1000 dog or cat

What did you think would happen having a prey and predator out at the same time?
    Disney isn't true life!

    Also
Those balls are not good for any animal above a mouse or mini hamster

Sorry if I sound angry, but I am

They're not even suitable for them and strongly advised against even in the hamster and mouse community (the ball this is). Tbh I didn't know you could even get one big enough for a degu.

Lucky the ferret didn't kill him outright but ferret bites can go deep so its possible he could be developing an infection.
    Definitely get to a vet.

Probably the large one marketed for rats etc. Some people even put chinchillas in them!

Same and no worries. I've had 4 hamsters and 5 rats (soon to be 7) and none of them have been shoved in a ball. Large play pen or using a clean dry bathtub is so much nicer. So i would advise @ChipTheDegu to maybe use the bathroom or bathtub or playpen for your degus and to not have multiple species free roaming at once. I don't have more than one hamster out at a time neither will I have my rats out with a hamster. Rats will happily kill a hamster. Just a case of learning from your mistakes and ensure it doesn't happen again.

Have you tried wiping the area with saline? Also you can still phone vets for advice

    Those balls are awful imo

The poor animal is not “having fun running around” it’s trying desperately to get out! :(

Update, we finally got him to the vet, and he is actually going to make it. Its just minor injuries, and today he's already starting to walk again.

Never, never use an exercise ball for any animal! They are death traps! I cannot understand why you are allowing a prey animal to exercise in the same area you are allowing a predator to run free. You need to rethink your animal husbandry.
