Just thought I’d post this for the few people who were interested after her check up last week.

She had her dental today - no extractions, yay!

The vet called me quite early in the morning after I had dropped her off which gave me a heart attack! But she rang to ask me if she could do an X-ray on her heart to see if it was enlarged.

The xrays showed her heart on the large side of normal. She doesn’t need to go on meds, but she does need to go back in 6 months for more xrays. Which is good for the moment.

Her bloods were all fine, a couple were high-ish but the vet wasn’t particularly concerned.

Anal glands expressed (will see if that makes a difference to her ‘random pains’), ears were good.

She did say that her blood pressure went quite low when she was under, and she struggled to maintain her body temperature (more than is usual) despite their efforts. I’m not quite sure if that’s a significant problem now but they did write it down in my take-home notes.

I can pick her up in about an hour. I’m not sure if I should put an equafleece on her overnight? Forecast says we will get down to about 10 overnight, but equally I don’t want her to overheat during the night. Maybe just lots of blankets?

Looking forward to having my baby girl home, it’s very quiet without her.

Edit: she’s home and pretty dopey but she’s had a pee and a bit of food. She was looking cold so I popped a fleece on her and she seems more comfortable.

She looks good in the photo. I also feel chilled after a GA, the Equafleece is probably a good idea.

Glad the dental went well with no extractions. She seems bright in the picture all things considering!

Hope she continues symptom free for as long as possible and if 6 monthly checks are added to your list after the follow up in 6 months time so be it.

Awwww lovely McKenzie looking pretty in pink!
Glad no extractions, and good of them to do a heart x-ray. At least now you know and can monitor for anything. Glad they don't think it's an issue though.

Thanks everyone! She’s woken up full of beans this morning, although we’ll take it easy today. Although she’s already rough housing with Elliot! Ellie’s tum has also settled and he didn’t wake me overnight, so we all got a good sleep.

The vet said that as the murmur makes her heart work harder, the heart itself will get bigger which is the issue. Hopefully 6 monthly checks will let us start meds at the right time.

Glad she's safely back home with you and feeling better now.
She certainly looks very cute in her fleece, that colour suits her!

Sounds like it all went well. As you say, keeping a regular check on her little heart will enable you to start medication as early as possible, which will go a long way to keeping her in as good health as possible.

And a nice clean mouth is very important, I was told by a vet that bad teeth themselves can cause heart problems because the bacteria can get into the blood stream and affect the heart and other organs. I'm sure you probably know that anyway though. :)

Glad Elliot's tummy has settled now too. :)
