Well we went to the pups and I made my choice - currently he's called Barney but we may yet decide he suits something else better :p

5 weeks old and the whole litter were sooo lovely and lively but not crackers :p

Mum was *gorgeous* - a little lean but not scraggy, not surprising with 8 puppies to feed! but lovely temperment! very happy for us to see her pups and eager for her own share of fuss. Her two older sons were stunners too! we met two pups from her previous litter at 15 months old now and they were exhuberent but not scatty. Cracking working conformation and lookers to boot.

Mum is from farming bred stock so no papers but health checks all in place - the puppy room was fab and clean with very little puppy odour, and here's what I am really impressed with - birthing box was nice and roomy - alsation sized easily, lovely and clean and the play pen surrounding it even bigger allowing plenty of space. The pups already have a 'toiletting' area and were waking up to go to it and even stopping mid play, going to the spot and coming back to play so will hopefully toilet train quite well as their mum seems to have taught them to be quite 'clean'. Their breeders were familiar with each and every one at the mearest glance without needing to refer to the record book for info on any pup, the pups were obviously very familiar with both and *very* people friendly and eager for attention.

While we were there breeder was in with them on floor getting climbed on and playing with them/checking them over

I am very comfortable buying from them :) am not breeding or showing so papers are not vital - just healthy, well bred, well socialised and well researched pup

another thing that was impressive was we got the impression that if we hadn't shown that we understood how the springer mind/mentality worked that we would not have been allowed to reserve him

    Anyway onto the puppy

There were 3 that I fell in love with out of the 6 boys - mentally labelled 'Butterball', 'Threespot' and 'Inktail' for choosing purposes. Threespot immediately ran up to me and my mum and was demanding attention and so on - very bolshy and forward and tugging at fingers etc

Butterball was confident but not pushy, loved attention, was playing with the others nicely but then plonked himself by my feet and went to sleep - when I moved to the corner of pen he woke up followed and went to sleep by my feet again.

Inktail was pushy and very very shouty, barked a lot when not being cuddled but *adored* being cuddled... was very playful and sweet though

Anyway it was 'Butterball' we went with but no way we would keep that name - his breeders had called him Oscar but I have reasons to *not* like that name (to do with an old job) and I want a B so we were looking at him and was like "hmmm not a Bentley or Bramble or Biggles... you kinda look like a Barney"

so at least for now he's Barney unless you think he looks like a different name off the 'B names list' I had?

Barnet, although I heard of a Bing this week, Bing the springer!

When you say health checks, do you mean eye and hip score?

soooo excited - I can pick him up on first Feb at 9 weeks old

parents are hip and eye tested - I got told figures but cannot for life of me remember them. Dad is a field trial dog with hip score of under 10 combined sides which I only remember cos I knew that was below the 14 average

    both are fucodocis clear too

so lovely healthy stock - mum and two older half brothers are exhuberent and lively as springers should be but not scatty/crazy as poorly raised or poorly pet bred springers can be

ooooh this is gonna be the longest 4 weeks ever!

Really? I've never met another Branston, I thought he was unique :( :D

To OP - What a gorgeous little pupster, I bet you can't wait to get your hands on him! I think Barney suits him... or Barnaby... or Butterball

    he's soooo snuggly wuggly

I think his 'proper' name is going to be Barney but he'll be known as Butterball - like my old Poppy was known as Doodles :p
