    Anyone know about maps?
I want to order some maps of my local area so I can work out all the footpaths etc and plan some good walks.
I've been looking on the OS website and there are 2 types of maps - Landranger and Explorer.
Anyone know which type would be best for what I want to do?
    Or any other recomendations.

Sorry cannot help you with what type of map is better but if you have an iphone or app able phone you can download the GoWalkies App. This is a great app for searching for dog walking areas etc...
Guide Dogs | Mobile App | Go Walkies if interested

Thanks - do they show footpaths and bridleways?

And thx for telling me about Streetmap - I've had a look at the website, lots of detail.

I'm pretty sure both do, I think it's just the scale and way they're presented from memory that's different, hang on, I'll have a look on their website again. Sod's law I can't find one map here atm!!! Apart from a michelin map of Southern Africa which isn't much help

Landrangers are 1:50000 and Explorers are 1:25000 - it says the landrangers maps provide all the information you need to get to know your local area. I'm sure they do have footpaths and bridleways etc marked on them, I think they both do but just with a different scale and some differences in everything else marked on there and the legends.

Yep, just reading the bumpf, the landranger maps are larger detail and show rights of way :)

    Got you going then :D
We use Explorer, much easier to see detail when you are on the ground

Thx :D The bumpf just confused me

    Yes - I blame you;)
I think it's time I explored properly as opposed to me just stumbling across places to walk :)

It's quite exciting the first time you try a walk :)

Landranger is ok if you know the area but the Explorer has much more in depth detail so you're less likely to get lost :)
