Love this site for really useful information and observations, I have now retired, and unfortunately having lost our dog last year we are looking to re-home an older dog, either Dobermann or Standard Poodle. Have contacted the breed rescues, but no reply so far and have looked at the "Oldies Club", but when I contact specified kennel they seem to have no knowledge of the "Oldies" Advertisement. So if anyone is looking to find a secure, kind and loving home in the countryside for their pet, do hope that they will consider us! In any event all advice as to where else to look would be most gratefully accepted!

Well done for considering an oldie. They are often over looked which is such ashame. Have you considered an old staffy at all? There are plenty on here which im sure would love to come live with you:eek:;)

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for your support, that's the problem, there are so many dogs in need of homes, We swore we wouldn't have another one after losing our lovely "Hector" last year, really didn't want to go through the grief again! But life just isn't the same without our "little man".

An older dog will suit us fine now that we have retired, but do really want to stick with a breed with which we are familiar.

    Sorry for your loss:(

It think a lot of people go through the 'never again' stage but i of course life just isn't the same without a canine companion! Grieving for a pet is horrible but giving a dog a home and getting a loyal friend in return has to be worth it.

Hector is going to need at least one doggy sibling to play with in doggy heaven one day.

Thats fair enough. I am sure there is the right dog out there just waiting for you to find it. :D

There is a rescue section on this forum, might be worth keeping an eye on that. Or having a quick look in case there are some dogs fitting your requirements.
