So yesterday I participated in my first ever 'sportive'. It was atrociously organised and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole ever again (the company), but it means I did my longest ever bike ride so far.

We didn't quite manage the 60 miles as the terrain was so hilly, we had to walk a few (16-20% inclines, they were pretty difficult to walk up, never mind cycle).

And I managed to twist/sprain my ankle. Good going I hear you say when you are on your bike, but I panicked when trying to unclip my shoes on a really steep uphill and wrenched my ankle.

Oh, and I fell off at a junction as was too busy looking at traffic and totally forgot to unclip.

Here's the map and gradient pic, if anyone knows the area, it went through Oakamoor and Ipstones, Cheddleton and Wetley Rocks. Never done hills like them before.

So managed nearly 54 miles and today I'm not sure I'll be getting much done :D

    Thanks!

I'm aching in places I didn't know I had muscles!

Good work @MilleD :) I remember when a pal forgot to unclip and fell side wards in front of a bus full of people...who mostly got off to check she was okay!

    Enjoy the rest today.

Luckily, I fell onto the knee that has the ruptured cruciate ligament so I was wearing a support that offered some protection from the tarmac:D

    Please be careful.

A child, stationary on a pavement, fell sideways off/with their bike into the road as my uncle was moving past at the lights, driving a bus.

He went straight under the wheel and was killed.

Not my uncle’s fault, but he lives with that nightmare (as do the child’s family) :(

I see a lot of cyclists struggling with those pedal clips.

:( That's so tragic. The poor little one, family and your poor uncle :(
