    Tomorrow marks the day we stand to remember, the solder's that gave there all for the country we live in.

    This is not a thread for arguments about bad things the British army have done, this is for the good, who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect us, Queen and country.

    With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
    England mourns for her dead across the sea.
    Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
    Fallen in the cause of the free.

    Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
    Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
    There is music in the midst of desolation
    And a glory that shines upon our tears.

    They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
    Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
    They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
    They fell with their faces to the foe.

    They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
    Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
    At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

    They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
    They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
    They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
    They sleep beyond England's foam.

    But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
    Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
    To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
    As the stars are known to the Night;

    As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
    Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
    As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
    To the end, to the end, they remain.

    Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
    Selling poppies in town today.
    The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
    For the men who marched away.

    But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
    Why not a beautiful rose?
    Because my child, men fought and died
    In the fields where the poppies grow.

    But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
    Why are the poppies so red?
    Red is the colour of blood, my child.
    The blood that our soldiers shed.

    The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
    Why does it have to be black?
    Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
    For the men who never came back.

    But why, Mummy are you crying so?
    Your tears are giving you pain.
    My tears are my fears for you my child.
    For the world is forgetting again.

    Let us also remember the dogs and horses who have gone with the soldiers, and not returned

    In Flanders fields the poppies blow
    Between the crosses, row on row,
    That mark our place; and in the sky
    The larks, still bravely singing, fly
    Scarce heard amid the guns below.

    We are the Dead. Short days ago
    We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
    Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

    Take up our quarrel with the foe:
    To you from failing hands we throw
    The torch; be yours to hold it high.
    If ye break faith with us who die
    We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    Absolutely, they were just as brave and just as corageous as the soldiers they worked alongside with.

    Military and non military animals remembered.

    FLOWER OF THE ETERNAL SLEEP By Josie Whitehead

    Flower of the eternal sleep Watching with the ones who weep. You, whose lives, so short in bloom, Saw such bloodshed, death and gloom.

    You trembled to the sound of guns Which tore to death beloved sons. You fluttered, died. before your time -Dropped blood red petals in their prime.

    Crimson poppies 'neath the clouds -Short lived, yet colourful and proud; Now worn by humans with such pride Remembering those who bravely died.

    You represent young lives cut short -Those who, for freedom, bravely fought. Flower of the eternal sleep -Silently your vigil keep.

    R.I.P

    Remember me Duty called and I went to war Though I'd never fired a gun before I paid the price for your new day As all my dreams were blown away

    Remember me We all stood true as whistles blew And faced the shell and stench of Hell Now battle's done, there is no sound Our bones decay beneath the ground We cannot see, or smell, or hear There is no death, or hope or fear

    Remember me Once we, like you, would laugh and talk And run and walk and do the things that you all do But now we lie in rows so neat Beneath the soil, beneath your feet

    Remember me In mud and gore and the blood of war We fought and fell and move no more Remember me, I am not dead I'm just a voice within your head

    Watching all those ex service men and women and the families marching past the cenotaph paying thier respects to the dead sends a chill up and down my spine.

    Those people must never be forgotten for the sacrifice they made to keep us free

    I missed the first remembrance service I can ever recall missing today since childhood :(:(. Had to take hubby to the airport. I did feel overwhelmingly bad, and sad, but then realised that I think of absent friends, the fallen and injured every single day and did set aside a few minutes to contemplate this morning. It has turned into a day of contemplation as these things do - I miss being 'in'; service, curry lunch and best of all being surrounded by people who understand.
