My friend bought a six pack of vet prescribed flea treatment for her dog last month and hadn't used any of them. Unfortunately had to have her dog PTS yesterday. Tried retuning the flea treatment to the vet for credit to her account as she has other pets so didn't require a refund. Vet says because it's classed as medical they can't do a refund on it.
Now that's fine but she still has a pack of unused flea treatment that is no use to her and wanted to know if it's legal to resell it via a local site or Gumtree etc. Obviously not asking what she paid for it but to try and recoup some of the money back as it was very expensive.
So can anyone in the know please advise.
    Thanks x

Is it Advocate? I never quite understood why a prescription is needed for this.......

I am guessing its frontline combo which is prescription only medication. Which comes with the same as human medications...you can't legally sell prescription medication.

I think there might be a clause for those like frontline that you need a licence to sell it...if its just normal frontline too, so basically no license no sale.

At this heartbreaking time, I think the best thing to do would be just donate the frontline to a local rescue centre in memory of her pet and cut her losses.

    It's Advocate.
So it's legally ok to give it away but not re sell it?
    Thanks x

Advocate...is prescription only so no you can't sell it...

I used frontline as an example as one is a licence sale, and one prescription.

Any medication classed as prescribed cannot be sold by the purchaser.

My vet will take anything back if it is has not been opened. Maybe your friend could pass it on to a friend who will slip her something for it.

That's the smartest way - give it away to someone with a dog of the right size and let them give her petfood or something else she needs for her other pets.

Once we have taken medication from the chemist it cannot be returned, even if not used and manufacturer seal unbroken it still cannot be reissued.
perhaps vets are the same and have to consider how it has been stored whether the outer casing has been subjected to trauma etc

There's a piece of wisdom to pass on to drug dealers :)

Just to clarify all unused medication should be returned to the chemist...so they can dispose of it properly but you will not be reimbursed.
Am sure that's what you meant in your first sentence, but your quick mind was running away with your typing fingers.
