Just to warn you that I got an albeit gorgeous Ann Rees leather half check and it left horrendous staining on Dex. It had brass fittings.

Mine was from Luxway, bridle leather in black or brown with brass fittings.

I know the original thread started here in 2012 but its still helps people today that may be looking for same type of thing like me etc.

I am also looking to buy a good quality Leather Half Check Collar and I quite like the looks of what the previous person "wilmer" mentioned, this one here >>>>>
http://www.luxwaycanine.co.uk/leather-collar-gedge-half-check-34-104-p.asp but I haven't click the 'Buy' button just yet as I wanted to see if anyone has anything else to add maybe ??

Main reason I like that style is because it is adjustable and it looks to me as if the adjustable buckle part would be at the side of the neck when the dog pulls, I have noticed lots on ebay/amazon etc that have all the buckles etc exactly where I wouldn't imagine is too good for the dog if it pulls, you know what I mean (pressing hard on the under side of their throats), so I imagine that if the buckles are at the side slightly then surely that has to be a lot more comfy, Right ??

p.s, I have never used that type of collar before but hear they are great especially for training or even general use.
p.p.s, @Wilmer , what like is the quality of those collars and the metal on them please ?

You should never use a half check on a dog that pulls (or arguably any type of collar)

Changed my mind, spoke to a couple of trainers over the past days and they said that the half check is miles better than trying to train a mutt than a harness, so I will buy both and see for myself, I already have a harness just now, its just a cheap rubbish one (I will buy a better one), but he pulls like mad on it, cant keep him under control, according to the trainers I spoke to they said that the harness doesn't help, plus I am going to start the training classes this week too, so we shall see, hopefully something works, I still very much like the look of those half checks recommended by @Wilmer , the one I posted the link up to.

Half check definitely not better for the dog. Get a harness with front and back connection and don't use the trainers who advocate half checks!

I would never in a million years use a half check on a small breed, especially not one who pulls! I've started using a TTouch harness on Danny this week, with a double ended lead, and it's been absolutely brilliant.
