The crying of a kitten brought Jenny Jackson of Dearborn Animal Control to the immaculate grounds and exterior of Kenneth Lang, Jr. While removing the kittens Ms. Jackson heard the sound of a dog, crying from inside a doghouse that was blocked by a brick and a board. Once the dog was freed, Ms. Jackson saw a Chihuahua caked in feces and with an obvious infection. She asked if there were more dogs inside – and that led to the discovery of 151 dead Chihuahuas in freezers and 112 in need of an immediate rescue.
Although the outside of the home was clean and well tended, the interior and inhabitants were feces covered and crowded into every corner of the household. Mr. Lang was evaluated as unfit and taken to psychiatric care. The surviving dogs were taken to the Dearborn Animal Shelter at 2661 Greenfield Road, Dearborn 48120. The shelter is open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. It’s closed on Sundays. The dogs are being evaluated for adoption and will hopefully find loving homes.
