How do you teach a kitten to stay away from the Christmas tree?
    Is it even possible

I have never found it possible! ;)

But some forum members have erected barriers around the Xmas tree to keep their kittens off it. Or put it in a room where the kittens are not allowed. (Not always practical if the ground floor is open plan!)

For the first time in about 30 years I had a Christmas tree last year. I have 4 cats (2 aged 7 and 2 aged 11). They left the tree alone, other than sitting quietly underneath it. However to reduce risks to the cats I didn't put any lights on it, also no tinsel (toxic to cats if they chew it) and all the baubles were shatter proof. It did look pretty! :)
