When T had kennel cough years ago he had,a cough syrup like,we would take. Is Pardale not just paracetamol? Maybe time to give your vet a call and ask about something else?
More like co-codamol - it has codeine in it, the vet said acts as a cough suppressant/anti-inflammatory, although I can't find any evidence of such claims online... And where does it stand in regards to her Gabapentin? Should I be giving her both?(I know, that's something for the vet).

She has her Librela injection tomorrow anyway, and I planned to mention it then, but maybe I do need to phone them today. Or seek a second opinion.

I would phone them. When you say she settles on the couch is she i your room overnight ? Could it be something environmental? I’m sure Loki had antibiotics for KC.

Yes, there are definitely cough suppressants you can give dogs, I'd ask about them.
Ugh sorry you're going through this!

Poor you and poor Milly, having a poorly dog is so upsetting and exhausting isn't it!
I've read about paediatric Benylin being given for KC, could you ask about that?

Tilly has been on pardale (regularly takes paracetamol) and gabapentin at the same time.
I would have thought an actual anti inflammatory would be better but I’ve no experience of this.

I hope you can find something to calm things so you can get some sleep too. I know how difficult it can be.

Yes, both dogs sleep in my bedroom. Kaylus has the run of the living room. :)

That's what I'm thinking - something in the environment is making it much worse (she does still cough in the living room too, but it's not nearly as persistent, or as hacking, or as loud).

Having said that, we've just had a "sleepover" with both Milly and Honey on my bed, and her coughing then was only about as bad as in the living room. So maybe she's either too far away from the window, or too low down overnight. 🤔

Thank you.

Thank you, I will do.

Thanks. I haven't stopped giving her the gabapentin - mainly because they never advised me to and it didn't occur to me until yesterday.

The vet did discuss loxicom, but dismissed it she has on her notes that she reacts badly to it. Milly's had it before and been fine, but then once, she was on it and was sick.

Spoke to the vet (or the receptionist, who spoke to the vet). They have asserted that Pardale is the best med given Milly's heart problems.

She also said if it is KC (which I do think it is), it's just a case of letting it run its course and that can take a couple of weeks.

Tomorrow's appointment was with the nurse, but she's made a note on the system for the vet, and they'd want to see her themselves, so we'll see what tomorrow bring,.

01:51. So far, Milly's had 1 single coughing fit.

So why am I still awake?

Because she's on my bed, and when she's not snoring in my ear, she's doing her very best to back-kick me out of bed in her sleep. And if she succeeds, I'll land on top of Honey.

Oh, and she's suddenly decided that if Honey likes honey🍯 , then so does she.

Dogs! 🙄 😁

Definitely KC. Two vets checked her heart and lungs at yesterday's appointment, both say they're still clear, and one (the one we usually see), managed to cause her to cough by irritating her throat.

Plus, no coughing at all last night.

Milly fell again trying to get into the car but this time, managed to get up with my help We'd been waiting 20mins for my mum to come for us, so she'd been standing a while, so possibly pointing to the arthritis? They've put her on another pain med for that, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm beginning to worry about finances for it all. I mentioned - briefly - about seeing if I can do the Librela injections myself and get a prescription - that would save £40 a month, but it's looking like that would go straight back to the vet for amandine.

Vet suggested acupuncture too, but that's waaaaay out of my price range unfortunately. :(

Don’t feel bad I’m in the same position with Sox there is only so much money in the pot.
Thanks. I know you're in the same boat. I'm sorry. 🤗 . Expensive but worth it, eh?

In one respect though, it's actually a relief that her leg weakness is caused by pain, rather than natural, old dog muscle wastage, because if it's pain, despite the expense, there's something that can be done about it.

I’m not usually one for advocating credit, but if you are going to spend the money anyway, have a look at the 0% credit cards. Some have long payback periods at the moment.

At least that would put a less urgent strain on your current finances. Just make sure you don’t add more to it, or miss payments.

Money Saving Expert website is useful.

if it helps and she’s on a human dose of amantadine get a prescription and get it at a human pharmacy.
How would you go about that? Wouldn't the prescription be written by the vet, and human pharmacies aren't licensed to provide medication for animals? I know if I've asked for anything like eye ointment or piriton I've been advised never to say its for my dog.

Thank you @Lurcherlad . :) I have a credit card, but I'll need to use that for decorating the new flat (when I get it 🙄 ).

I'm looking at things in other areas that I can reduce at the moment... £34p/m for SkyQ, for example.

Glad to hear she’s on the mend with the kernel cough.
Thank you. Me too! (but still glad it was "just" that and not her heart). If she gets it after boarding, I'm sending her straight back and they can deal with it. 😉:p

She's on 1.5x50mg per day.

They are licensed to deal with written animal prescriptions.

The reason you don’t say for over the counter things is because you don’t need a prescription to get it but it could be like you’re prescribing it yourself for your pet, if that make sense but if the vet gave you a prescription for it it would be fine.

Are you close to renewing? They gave me a deal to keep me and I pay £26 a month.
15th Jan. On the phone to them now. Talking about Black Friday deals.

Ah I think that’s a veterinary only dose so the most expensive.

It may still be cheaper with an online pet pharmacy but you’d have to call up to find out the price, being a human medication they can’t “advertise” it on the websites.
Typical. Thanks anyway. :)
